ExpressVPN officially launches password manager tool for all users

Ny Breaking’s top-rated VPN service is one step closer to becoming an all-in-one privacy software, as it launches its new password management tool.

After a successful beta release, ExpressVPN Keys is now available to all users at no additional cost. This means that the provider now has a tool to manage and protect all passwords and other sensitive data, without you having to sign up for an additional service.

ExpressVPN is also one of the few VPN providers that offers this feature for free.

What are ExpressVPN keys?

“Passwords are an inescapable part of our online lives. But despite their importance, a large number of people still have poor password habits, relying on repetitive use of the same password or the dreaded password reset button as their preferred security method” , says Samuel Bultez, head of product at ExpressVPN.

In a digital world where the number of online accounts is increasing at the same pace as the number of data breaches, it is crucial that you have a reliable way to protect your most sensitive data. With ExpressVPN you now don’t even need an extra app.

Buletz explained that Keys’ mission is to make this transition to security a little easier for users. “We want to help more of our users take their first steps in password best practices, making it simple and easy for people to manage their passwords with a brand they trust,” he said.

Keys allows you to store an unlimited number of logins, passwords, credit/debit card details, and even notes. The tools also help you generate stronger custom passwords, while alerting you if your existing passwords are too weak. It also acts as a data breach alert and sends you notifications when your emails or passwords have been breached.

ExpressVPN Keys not only promises security, it’s also more convenient.

For example, you can use it as a 2FA authenticator. This means that Keys will generate and auto-fill six-digit time-based one-time passwords (TOTPs) on your behalf when you log into accounts. It allows you to log out of devices remotely while automatically syncing all your information, as well as unlock biometrics on your smartphone and securely auto-fill credit card details, logins and passwords.

Key is integrated directly into the iOS and Android VPN apps, as well as a browser extension, and can be used on an unlimited number of devices simultaneously.

A safety trip

As mentioned, ExpressVPN Keys first launched in beta in April 2022. Now, over a year later, the team finally has the security product they envisioned ready to offer to users

“We pride ourselves on making privacy and security simple and accessible by offering an all-in-one suite of tools: VPN, Password Manager, Aircove Router, Data Breach Alert, Ad Blockers, Trackers, Malicious Sites , adult sites and more,” said Bultez.

The team built Keys entirely in-house and from scratch, using zero-knowledge encryption. In December, Cure53 confirmed the security of its infrastructure during an independent audit.

The provider wanted to give everyone the opportunity to check how the software works, by adding it to the ExpressVPN bug bounty program, so other security researchers can test the code and make suggestions. The provider even released a 43-page version white paper including more details about Keys’ design and technical infrastructure.

Buletz said: “Privacy and security have never been more important, yet more complex. Our vision is to develop a super app for privacy and security and help modern users protect all aspects of their digital lives through one app and subscription.”
