ExpressVPN has been at the top of our best VPN rankings for a while now and has just unveiled a number of feature-packed updates to bring even more value to its users. Releasing a range of new features in the apps, you can now benefit from an ad blocker, generous upgrades to the existing server network and even more simultaneous connections.
As people are expected to share more and more data online, the popular VPN provider is looking to implement broader protections for a growing digital footprint.
All of the new tools are available in ExpressVPN’s Windows, iOS, and Android VPN apps at no additional cost. They are expected to be released for Linux and Mac by the end of this year.
The renewal of ExpressVPN
“ExpressVPN’s services help millions of users take control of their digital lives every day, so we continually strive to bring them more value and a better experience,” said Samuel Bultez, Head of Product at ExpressVPN.
The secure VPN provider refresh includes five new tools and improvements, including:
- Ad blocker: If you’re tired of annoying and intrusive ads disrupting your browsing experience, enable ExpressVPN’s new tool, which will filter out most display ads and prevent them from loading in your browser.
- Adult site blocking: it is an extension of already existing advanced security features and uses open-source blocklists to block adult sites. It’s a great feature to give parents more control over the content their children can access.
- Larger server network: you can now grant access to an even more diverse range of IP addresses and locations now that ExpressVPN has expanded its network from 94 to 105 countries.
- Extended multi-device policy: Not only more servers, the provider has also increased the number of devices: from five to eight simultaneous connections with just one subscription.
- Automatic update function: Only available on ExpressVPN desktop apps, this means you no longer have to manually update your app to the latest version for the best security.
Express explains that the new adult ad and site blocker is intended to be used alongside the already existing Threat Manager system: a web tracker and malware blocker that you can enable and disable directly from the settings menu.
Go to the Advanced Security Settings tab to enable the new protections, which are available so far for Windows, Android, and iOS. Support for Linux and Mac is expected to become available sometime in the coming months.
Although the auto-update feature is only available on desktops at the time of writing, the provider explained that this can be very useful, especially for people living under internet restrictions, as it can be difficult to keep up with manual updates.
The 12 new server locations are Bermuda, Cayman Islands, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ghana, Guam, Honduras, Jamaica, Lebanon, Morocco, Puerto Rico, Trinidad and Tobago. All servers in these countries are ExpressVPN’s 10 Gbps servers, so users can expect fast speeds and reliable connections.
A more generous multi-device policy also translates into greater value. You can now connect up to eight devices at once, potentially protecting your entire household with just one subscription.
“We’re proud of the incredible range of new features and service improvements, which give our users more ways to protect themselves at no additional cost,” said Bultez.
“We can’t wait for everyone to try out these new updates and will continue to look for ways to improve our service to meet the changing online needs of our users.”
