Alex Murdaugh sobbed when police confronted him with evidence showing he was at the scene minutes before his wife and son were killed.

The tense interview with the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) shown to the jury at his murder trial on Wednesday showed a number of discrepancies from his interview the night of the murders.

SLED Special Agent David Owen told Murdaugh his timeline doesn’t match and later established with him that he had changed his clothes after the murders and ‘family weapons’ were used to execute his wife and son. .

Murdaugh, 54, faces life in prison if convicted of killing his wife Maggie, 52, and their son Paul, 22, whose bodies were found on June 7, 2021, near the kennels on the family’s estate. Murdaugh has strongly denied killing them.

Alex Murdaugh was confronted by police about evidence showing he was at the scene of the crime minutes before his wife and son were killed.

Murdaugh broke down in tears as he described his last day with his son Paul in June 2021.

Several inconsistencies were revealed in the interview, including whether or not Murdaugh went to the pound that night, how much time he spent at his mother’s house, and the change of clothes.

There were also inconsistencies with the timeline of when Murdaugh left the office that day and the reason Maggie was called from the family’s beach house.

Murdaugh claims that he was asleep in the house and when he woke up, he went to visit his mother and was there for about 45 minutes. However, a caretaker previously testified that the visit lasted only 20 minutes.

Murdaugh said he found the bodies of his wife and son when he returned.

Owen confronted Murduagh with: “I have information that Paul was on the phone and Maggie was heard in the background and you were heard in the background, and that was before…”

Murdaugh chimed in: ‘Rogan Gibson asked me if I was there. He said that he thought it was me.

Then Owen asked what time it was. Murdaugh replied: ‘At 9 o’clock? No sir. Not if my timing is right.

The third interview was played out in court on Wednesday following testimony from SLED agent David Owen, who took the stand this morning.

During the video, Owen was asked to describe Murdaugh’s reaction when told that “family weapons” had been used in the murders.

‘Nothing,’ he testified.

Owen said Murdaugh called him on July 28 to ask about the investigation and if he could get his belongings, including his golf clubs, out of his 2021 Chevrolet Suburban because he was about to go on vacation.

Owen testified that he wanted to question Murdaugh again, but said that Murdaugh could not meet immediately, so the interview was scheduled for August 11.

Three weeks since South Carolina lawyer fell out of favor Alex Murdaugh double murder trialprosecutors have called dozens of witnesses who offer extensive and sometimes disjointed testimony.

Jurors have heard from investigators that found the bodies of Murdaugh’s wife and son, and technicians who found gunshot residue, opened cellphones for video and tested dozens of ammunition casings.

They’ve heard from law firm employees betrayed, heartbroken friends of Murdaugh and his family, and a man whose insurance settlement was stolen after his mother, the Murdaughs’ housekeeper, was killed in a fall at their home.

But witnesses have been called in disorganized groups and tantalizing bits of evidence have been presented, but not explained. The defense expects to start their case in the middle of next week and had planned a week of testimony, but is reconsidering it due to the length of the trial.

After the murder trial, Murdaugh will have to face more than 100 additional criminal charges, ranging from drug trafficking to accusations that he stole nearly $9 million from clients and other lawyers.

Prosecutors say Murdaugh lured his wife and son to his 1,700-acre hunting lodge and shot them to death.

The state also claims that his life was spiraling out of control amid years of opioid addiction and mounting debt.

Murdaugh pleaded not guilty in June, and the successful trial is expected to include wild allegations of dark family secrets, financial ruin and hedonistic excess.

In all, more than 220 people could testify against Murdaugh at trial.
