Explosion sends smoke through DC’s Eastern Market station: Possible train derailed as 9 patients are evaluated for injuries

The D.C. Fire Department successfully extinguished a fire that broke out at the Eastern Market Metro station after noon.
Officials said the station on the 700 block of Pennsylvania Avenue had been evacuated and they are now ventilating the terminal.
According to DC Fire and EMS, nine patients were evaluated for injuries and one of them was transported for treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.
The Blue, Orange and Silver rail lines between Federal Center and Stadium Armory remain suspended.
Shuttle buses are deployed to help passengers get away.
Emergency services arrived on the scene after a box alarm went off at the station just after 1pm. Upon arrival they saw smoke everywhere on the platform.
