If you use Instagram, your feed is probably full of celebrities showing off their lip gloss phone cases.
Stars like Molly-Mae Haag, Rochelle Humes and Kendall Jenner are all using them, while TikTok is flooded with influencers promoting the business.
The original design was unveiled in February by Hailey Bieber’s brand Rhode and features a groove that can hold a lip gloss.
Since then, hundreds of copycat designs have appeared online – with even Heinz and O2 jumping on the bandwagon.
While the design may look sleek and trendy, experts have issued an urgent warning about using the case on your phone.
According to experts at Compare and Recycle, the design prioritizes sleekness over robust protection.
Moreover, according to the experts, the case can make your smartphone vulnerable to liquid damage.
‘For better protection, it is recommended that you use a separate, durable phone case and a small cosmetic pouch for your lip gloss, so that both your phone and its accessories are safe,’ say the experts.

While the design may look sleek and trendy, experts have issued an urgent warning about using the case on your phone
Rhode first unveiled the phone case to the world in February and it quickly sold out.
“A silicone bubble case for your phone that keeps your lip close at hand,” the case describes on the website.
‘Our design feels silky and soft and has a puffy back for easy grip.
‘Compatible with select iPhone models and your favorite Peptide Lip Treatment or Tint.’
Unfortunately, experts at Compare and Recycle say these phone cases don’t provide enough protection.
“Adding a lip gloss compartment compromises the structure of the box, often creating thinner or weaker areas to make room for storage,” they explained.
“The design sacrifices protective materials and shock-absorbing elements to accommodate the lip gloss holder, leaving the phone more vulnerable to damage from drops or bumps, especially on the side with the compartment.”
Additionally, keeping a lip gloss in the groove can increase the risk of liquid seeping into your smartphone.

“Liquid or cream lip glosses can leak or smear on the phone, potentially damaging buttons, ports or speakers,” the experts added.
Based on the findings, the experts urge Britons to opt for high-quality, protective smartphone accessories.
‘The average difference in retail value between a working and broken smartphone is £140,’ she added.
‘It can therefore get you into serious trouble if you choose telephone accessories that can damage your device.
‘Some accessories are useful, so we recommend that you always choose high quality accessories and attach them to phone cases where possible rather than directly to your handset.’
