Experts say THIS is why you shouldn’t smile into your mugshot when you get arrested
A lawyer has taken to the platform to explain why you should never smile in a custody mugshot.
Narimon Pishnamaz, a partner at California-based personal injury law firm Law & Pish, used the example of Angenette Marie Missett to make his point, who famously smiled in her mugshot before being sentenced to 11 years in prison for killing a mother of three children in a car accident.
In the clip posted to YouTube under his name @AttorneyPish, he asks viewers to imagine if they smiled in a mug shot that was then presented to a jury, who were asked if the person looked remorseful.
“The jury will absolutely hate you when they see you smiling in your mug shot after you just killed someone,” he said.

Despite her pleas, a judge sentenced Missett to 11 years in prison at the hearing
Pishnamaz said on YouTube alongside a smiling photo of Missett, “So imagine getting arrested like this woman did for a DUI that ended up killing someone.
“And imagine if they put up this mug shot at trial and ask the jury if this looks like a woman regretting the crime she committed.”
He warned that it could lead to a longer sentence and continued: “As a result, this woman was ultimately sentenced to 11 years in prison.”
Missett sparked outrage when the photo of her smile went viral in 2018 and another mug shot was taken.
Missett had a new police photo taken after her charge was upgraded to manslaughter

Police said Missett’s blood alcohol content was .172, more than twice the legal limit.
After pleading to manslaughter, Missett, who also goes by her maiden name Welk, was sentenced to a minimum of four years and a maximum of 15 years in prison.
“I’m really sorry and if I could switch places with your mother I would in a heartbeat. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m really, really sorry,” Missett said before she was sentenced.
Judge Steven Rogers eventually imposed the 11-year sentence.
