Experts predict whether Mark Robinson’s ‘Black Nazi’ and ‘Nude Africa’ scandal will hurt Donald Trump in the 2024 election

The scandal in North Carolina over Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson’s bizarre past internet activities has dominated headlines in what is a critical state of the 2024 election.

The Republican running for governor was accused of calling himself a “black Nazi” on a pornographic forum called “Nude Africa.”

He has denied the allegations and vowed to sue CNN, the first network to publish the lurid allegations.

While Robinson has taken a hit in the polls and could struggle in his governorship race, the lingering question is whether his behavior will impact the candidate on top, Donald Trump.

Political experts have mixed feelings about whether Robinson’s doubts will hurt the former president, with most saying they won’t.

But a pollster told DailyMail.com that one factor could cause a ripple effect in a state where the Republican Party has won since 2008.

Mark Robinson’s name will appear on the ballot in North Carolina regardless, despite calls for him to end his bid after the latest scandal

If Republican turnout is affected by their lack of enthusiasm to vote in the gubernatorial race, it could also potentially help swing the state toward the Democrats in the presidential race.

And pro-Robinson signs are increasingly disappearing from North Carolina yards.

Republicans are increasingly distancing themselves from their candidate after a CNN report last week claimed Robinson called himself a “black Nazi” and “perv” on the pornographic forum Nude Africa.

But the party appears to be stuck with him as Robinson should opt to drop his bid at this point in the race – and he has said he has no intention of quitting the race.

Elon University political science professor Jason Husser, who is also the university’s director of polling, said Robinson’s scandal “is unlikely to hurt Trump in the sense of convincing people… to suddenly to change your mind about him.’

“However, I don’t think Robinson’s problems are helping Trump in another way, which is that the governor’s campaigns could help turnout. And North Carolina is so tightly divided that turnout can often tip the election one way or another,” Husser countered.

“If you have an electorate that is so split down the middle, like North Carolina, and you get an extra 1 percentage point because your governor is next to you, then you have a very good basic game: vote out and motivate people and bring in everyone that the supporters of local candidates also joining the governor and the presidential candidate, that can make a difference.’

Husser says Robinson’s campaign has “destroyed” those Trump hopes, but that Josh Stein, the Democrat entering the state’s gubernatorial race, is “doing well.”

At least 10 Republican individuals and groups have canceled events featuring Robinson so far, and several local politicians and lawmakers have removed images featuring the candidate from their social media.

Some voters are showing how powerless they feel against Robinson by removing their yard signs.

“It’s about 50/50 as to whether the Robinson signs are still in the yard. Some people leave and some people pull them up,” Husser said of the right-leaning community where he lives.

CNN’s report revealing a series of lewd, racist and generally lascivious comments from Robinson is leading to calls for him to quit.

After the report came out, there was a small window in which Robinson could have suspended his bid and the NCGOP could have sued to prevent ballots with his name on them from being cast.

No matter what happens, Robinson’s name will appear on the ballots as they have already been sent to out-of-state and out-of-town voters.

Husser explained that there is still a way for the Republican Party in North Carolina to nominate another candidate – but that would be a long shot.

Robinson would have to voluntarily end his search for the Governor’s Mansion, which is already highly unlikely.

The party would then have to select a new candidate to replace him.

Then the work begins. Husser in detail. The NCGOP would have to spend a lot of money informing voters that even if they voted for Robinson in November, it would essentially mean their vote would go to the candidate selected to replace him.

Husser recently released a poll The pre-porn scandal left Vice President Kamala Harris 1 percentage point ahead of Trump in North Carolina — 46 percent to 45 percent.

The results represent a statistically insignificant distribution and fall within the Elon University Poll’s margin of error of 3.75 percentage points.

North Carolina, which has 16 Electoral College votes, went red for Trump in 2016 and 2020.

In 2016, Trump defeated Hillary Clinton by 3.6 percent. The gap with Joe Biden narrowed in 2020 when the former president won by 1.3 percent.
