Expensive Woolworths lamb has too much fat not value for money claims shopper cost of living soars

Woolworths shopper furious over shocking meat find: ‘It’s enough to ruin your dinner’

  • Customer dissatisfied with fat content in lamb shoulder
  • Shared images of the purchase on social media

A Woolworths customer was furious after discovering a ‘disappointing’ find in her latest meat purchase.

Nicole found what looked like the perfect portion of lamb – but when she tried to cook the meat, she got a sour taste in her mouth.

The customer said she was frustrated that the 970g piece of Rosemary & Mint Butterflied Lamb Shoulder contained 320g of fat.

“I bought a butterflied shoulder of lamb. It’s lamb so you expect a little bit of fat,” she shared on Twitter.

“But at $24 a pound, I think 1/3 of the weight is going too far as fat.”

The customer shared an image of the fat on a kitchen scale, along with another image showing the large, unusable chunks of meat on a cutting board.

Woolworths contacted Nicole and assured her that they have opened an investigation with their meat production partner.

The supermarket giant also gives its money back.

Several customers were not impressed with the cut of meat.

“Most of them offer you a refund if you send it back, but what does the family do for a meal when they open the package to prepare dinner and find this and maybe this is all they have on hand?” a man asked. “Very poor.”

“I once bought 550 grams of chicken breast from Woolies for a recipe that called for 500 grams,” said one woman.

‘The bag under the chicken was so wet that in the end I only had 350 grams left. Won’t be buying fresh chicken from Woolies again. What a scam!’

“About 10 years ago I picked up two 1kg packs of ground beef and it didn’t feel the same,” a third wrote.

“Weighed in one of those fruit and vegetable weights and both were way off by 200g.”

But others sided with Woolworths.

‘Fat is edible. If you don’t like eating it, that’s up to you and you’re the one to make the choice to cut it all off instead of eating it,” one woman said.

“They don’t sell anything inedible. It is part of the product. If you want lean lamb, don’t buy a cheap cut like a butterflied shoulder.”

Another chimed in, “How can you buy a shoulder of lamb and expect something different?” Haven’t you bought one before?’

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Woolworths for comment.
