Expectation vs reality: Mum furious over ‘sad’ looking cake from a baker for her son’s first birthday
A mother has been left disappointed after receiving a wrong birthday cake from a baker that looked nothing like what she ordered.
The woman ordered a tall cake with white and blue cream, the same as what she saw on the baker’s website, but what she got was far from what she asked for.
The cake maker apparently forgot her order and rushed the decoration, leaving her with a ‘sad’ birthday cake for her son that didn’t look professionally made.
“That was almost three years ago for my son’s first birthday. “I didn’t want anything too fancy, just a nice basic vegan cake,” the mom wrote in a POST on the “What I Asked VS What I Got” Facebook page.
She had shown the baker a stunning white cake with blue frosting, decorated with meringue and sprinkles – however she wanted the colors to change.
A mum was shocked to discover a baker had made her a ‘sad’ cake for her son’s first birthday. She got a short blue cake with white cream stripes on top and stripes down the side which means dripping
The woman ordered a tall cake with white and blue cream just like the one she saw on the baker’s website, but what she got was far from what she expected.
“The woman making it FORGOT to make it even though I booked way in advance. I made it that day and she claimed the oil in the vegan white chocolate made the cream look like this,” said the mom.
Inside the box was a short blue cake with white cream stripes on top and lines down the side that were meant to drip.
“I would have given her grace for that, but I had sent her a text not too long before the date, confirming her address to pick it up,” the woman explained.
“The pick up was the day before the party so I offered to pick it up in the morning to give her more time, but she assured me she would have it ready for collection that evening.”
The customer rejected the cake as it wasn’t necessary, saying: “If she couldn’t get a basic cake right, then how could I believe it was vegan?”.
They soon slammed the baker and questioned her baking skills, saying they could do a better job.
“I don’t think she’s ever made a cake before,” joked one user, and another laughed: “I bet she clapped her hands and said I’m done here!”.
‘Oh no! I would be devastated! This first cake is amazing! I don’t know what kind of nightmare the second one is, but it falls on bikes,’ commented a third.
“It looks like a giant blue marshmallow covered in dots,” someone said.
Some people defended cake makers saying that fudge frosting was harder to master than it looked, but mom wasn’t having it.
“If you advertise yourself as a professional baker and post pictures of drip cakes (and even more advanced creations) surely you should be able to create them instead of ripping people off and thinking it’s acceptable to give it away,” she said.
