‘Exorswift’ canceled: Film lovers joke that Taylor Swift’s Eras concert movie and The Exorcist’s clashing release date could have been ‘Barbenheimer part two’ – before horror movie’s premiere was moved
Moviegoers are disappointed by the fact that The Exorcist: Believer will no longer release on the same day as Taylor Swift’s Eras concert film, claiming it could have been “Barbenheimer part two.”
Shortly after it was announced that the singer’s forthcoming tour documentary would hit theaters on October 13, the same day as Believer, the horror film’s producer revealed that the movie would now be out on October 6.
Fans immediately emphasized that this decision led to a huge missed opportunity, as the clashing nature of the releases could have led to the same phenomenon as the cinema battle between Oppenheimer and Barbie earlier this year.
Twitter user Keyon quickly went viral when they tweeted, “This was supposed to be barbenheimer pt. 2… Excorswift.”
“Goodbye Barbenheimer, hello The Exorswift,” another joked, while a third wrote, “EXORSWIFT, are you kidding me. THIS IS GOLD.’
Which could have been: Moviegoers are disappointed by the fact that The Exorcist: Believer will no longer release on the same day as Taylor Swift’s Eras concert film
Missed opportunity: Initially slated to premiere on Friday the 13th, the horror film will now premiere a week early – meaning the ‘Exorswift’ will no longer take place
Iconic: Barbenheimer saw thousands of movie fans challenge themselves to watch the Hollywood blockbusters Barbie and Oppenheimer back to back on the same day
Barbenheimer was the global cultural phenomenon where thousands of movie fans challenged themselves to watch the Hollywood blockbusters Barbie and Oppenheimer back to back.
Fans were distraught to realize the same thing could have happened again when someone tweeted, “YOU TELL ME WE ARE GOING TO MISS THE EXCORSWIFT.”
“They fucking canceled the exorswift omfg,” another complained.
One movie buff revealed, “NAH CAUSE I WAS SO READY TO STAY IN THE IMAX.”
Movie buffs were left confused by the missed opportunity, as one said, “not because they really messed up with marketing, it could have been gold.”
“Why would they do that, they literally had a horror movie on Friday the 13th,” another wrote. “Fire those people.”
One fan quipped, “I mean Swifties screaming in the theater (sic) you would think a live exorcism is happening.”
While another tried to come up with a new name, stating, “The Swiftercism if you will.”
Reverse the decision: Film buffs were left confused by the missed opportunity decision
However, some fans pointed out that people could still enjoy the “exorswift” experience if they waited to watch both movies on Oct. 13.
“If we all wait until week two to watch the exorcist, we can make this happen,” one tweeted, while another wrote, “No, because people can watch both on the same day…”
On his Twitter Thursday, Jason Blum—a Believer producer—had the perfect joke in response to the change when he wrote, “Look what you made me do!”
To add an extra layer of humor to the tweet, the movie producer added the hashtag #taylorwins.
The singer of Lavender Haze has not yet publicly commented on the new release date of The Exorcist: Believer.
On Thursday, Taylor announced to her millions of followers on Instagram that “The Eras Tour has been the most meaningful, exciting experience of my life to date and I’m thrilled to tell you it’s coming to the big screen soon.”
She raised expectations for her fans by adding, “Era clothes, friendship bracelets, singing and dancing are encouraged.”
Movie ticket websites are already preparing to support their servers for ticket demand from dedicated Swifties who couldn’t attend the Eras tour in person.
