Camorra killers have shot an engineer in Naples after he exposed the Italian mafia-like criminal organization’s construction fraud.
Salvatore Coppola, 66, was shot in the face by his killers on Tuesday evening in the parking lot of a Deco store in San Giovanni a Teduccio.
The victim, believed to have been murdered after cooperating with the justice system, was ambushed by the killers before fleeing – reportedly leaving no eyewitnesses behind.
On March 12, shortly after 7 p.m., Flying Squad officials and San Giovanni officers discovered Coppola’s lifeless body and police said it was a “real Camorra execution.”
Local Italian news site TODAY reported that Coppola had lived under a protection regime in the past and had recently returned, after cooperating with the justice system for approximately fifteen years.

The victim was once closely associated with the Mazzarella clan – one of the most powerful groups in the Camorra
But the victim had previous links in the mafia world and had once been a white-collar criminal close to the Mazzarella clan – historically considered one of the Camorra’s most powerful groups.
However, in 2009, Coppola was involved in a massive financing operation that shed light on criminal economic speculation linked to the construction and real estate sectors in the eastern part of Naples.
It is considered an old industrial area of the city, partly redeveloped by huge investments.

It was said that within the construction industry, the mob ensured that no bricks were laid without paying a sum of money to the ‘system’.
He revealed background information on the economic interests linked to the investments, including alleged corruption.
Officials and experts reportedly worked with Coppola to expose the construction violence, which police say ultimately led to his brutal death.
The Carabinieri are now investigating the murder.
The Camorra is recognized as one of the oldest and largest criminal organizations in Italy, dating back to the seventh century.
They originated in the Campania region and came to power in the 19th century.
The Camorra’s organizational structure is divided into individual groups called ‘clans’ – of which there are believed to be around 180.
