Veteran actor Tom Selleck is almost unrecognizable after ditching his trademark handlebar mustache for a full beard, exclusive DailyMail.com photos show.
The 78-year-old, who made his name with his breakthrough role in the 80s crime drama series, Magnum: PI, was spotted sporting a dramatic new look during a rare public outing in Los Angeles last month.
Dressed in a black t-shirt and shorts and with a bushy gray beard on full display, the Blue Bloods star appeared scruffy and a far cry from the sharp, mustachioed heartthrob image he’s known for.
Selleck’s departure came amid a lengthy hiatus from filming the hit CBS cop drama due to the writers’ strike.
He broke cover to run errands in his pickup truck and made a pit stop at a McDonald’s drive-thru near his San Fernando Valley home.

Selleck, whose career spans five decades, has proven his longevity as a leading man on the small screen since Magnum PI.
He starred in numerous other TV classics, including Friends, where he memorably played the love interest of Courteney Cox’s Monica Gellar, and ABC drama Boston Legal.
The actor is now in his 13th season of the police drama Blue Bloods, where he has played NYPD Police Commissioner Frank Reagan since 2010, alongside Donnie Wahlberg and Bridget Moynahan.
He also has a side job peddling reverse mortgages in TV commercials for American Advisors Group.
Earlier this year, Selleck was seen reuniting with his former Magnum PI co-star Larry Manetti while the latter filmed a guest appearance on Blue Bloods in February.

It was the first time the two reunited on screen since starring in the CBS drama, which aired from 1980-1988.
The series followed Thomas Sullivan Magnum IV, a private investigator who lives in the guesthouse of a beachfront estate called Robin’s Nest, in Hawaii, and chooses his own cases to investigate.

The TV icon, who married the West End performer after meeting her in London when she starred in the musical Cats, insisted they are ‘true partners’ in all aspects of their lives.
