The Block’s Steph and Gian Ottavio have revealed what it’s REALLY like behind the scenes of the hit renovation show and how they feel about being this year’s villains
Speaking to Daily Mail Australia, the couple said the show stayed true to its core: both uplifting and challenging
“I think all we were trying to do when we went in was just being completely ourselves and vulnerable and showing the audience exactly how we felt at every moment.”
The Sydney couple, both 27, admitted to being somewhat taken aback by the brewing drama, which Gian says was an inevitable part of the journey.
“I definitely didn’t count on the drama, but that’s exactly what came with it,” he mused.
“There were ups, there were downs, and you can’t really avoid the downs. You just have to embrace everything and all experiences.’

Steph found it quite confusing when he said “to this day I don’t consider myself threatening, so yeah, maybe you should ask them to see if they’re being threatened by us.”
Throughout the drama, their focus remained unwavering: their mission was to renovate as quickly and perfectly as possible, and they did so with an unwavering spirit.
“Our names are in other people’s mouths, which just says more about them, and yeah, we don’t really have any control over that. We have no control over that. And we knew that,” Steph said.

Meanwhile, Gian said the raw and unfiltered emotions that viewers witness on the show boil down to sheer exhaustion and relentless pressure.
“I think when I watch the show, no one will ever be able to understand the kind of emotions and stress we were feeling at the time,” he explained.
“Obviously things have been said out of sheer exhaustion that people might not have said if they were in the right frame of mind.”
