EXCLUSIVE: Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas agree to temporarily keep children in New York amid bitter divorce battle – days after actress demanded he return them to England

Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas’ bitter custody battle appears to have reached a ceasefire as the pair have agreed to keep their children in New York during their divorce battle – days after the actress demanded he send the girls back to England, according to court documents.

Turner, 27, and her estranged husband, 34, said their three-year-old daughter Willa and their youngest daughter, whose name has not been revealed, will not be going to England for a while.

The interim order states they will reside in southern or eastern New York state, an area that includes New York City, the Hudson Valley and Long Island.

It was agreed to “protect the welfare of the (children) involved,” according to the document filed by Turner’s attorney Stephen Cullen.

But it is also intended to “prevent further removal or concealment of (children) before the final disposition of the petition.”

The order appears to be an olive branch after both sides exchanged bitter accusations over the past two weeks.

The filing by Cullen, Turner’s attorney, states: “The parties have agreed to the entry into force of the attached proposed Interim Consent Order, without prejudice to the claims and defenses of either party, which would require the removal of the parties’ children from the jurisdictions of the United States prohibit. District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York pending further order of this court.”

The filing states that the court must exercise its jurisdiction to “protect the welfare of the child involved or to prevent further removal or concealment of the child before final disposition of the request.”

A draft copy of the order must now be signed by Judge Katherine Polk Failla, who is overseeing the case.

It refers to the Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction and the International Child Abduction Act as the law governing the dispute.

The first hearing will take place on October 3 in federal court in Manhattan.

DailyMail.com has contacted lawyers for both parties for comment.

The filing comes just days after Jonas issued a sensational rebuttal to his estranged wife’s claims after she accused him of withholding their children’s passports and refusing to allow them to travel to visit her in Britain .

Turner is suing ex-husband Jonas to try to return their two children to her native Britain, according to court documents filed Thursday, in the latest bitter twist in the couple’s messy divorce battle.

After this news emerged, a rep for Jonas, 34, said in a statement to DailyMail.com that the singer was seeking “shared parenting” with the Game Of Thrones star, 27, adding: “The kids are not kidnapped.’

‘This is an unfortunate legal disagreement over a marriage that is unfortunately on the rocks. When language like “kidnapping” is used, it is at best misleading and at worst a serious abuse of the justice system. The children were not kidnapped,” the representative said.

“Having been in Joe’s care for the past three months by mutual consent, the children are currently with their mother. “Sophie is only making this claim to move the divorce proceedings to Britain and permanently remove the children from the US.”

Jonas’ rep also said that the singer had already “disavowed all statements allegedly made on his behalf that disparaged Sophie.”

“They were made without his approval and are not in accordance with his views. His wish is that Sophie reconsiders her harsh legal position and moves forward in a more constructive and private manner,” the statement said.

“His only concern is the well-being of his children.”

The rep also denied Turner’s claim that she was unaware he was filing for divorce.

‘After several conversations with Sophie, Joe initiated divorce proceedings in Florida, as Florida is the appropriate jurisdiction for the case. “Sophie knew Joe was going to file for divorce,” the rep said.

“The Florida court has already issued an order prohibiting both parents from moving the children. Sophie received this order on September 6, 2023, more than two weeks ago.’

Furthermore, Jonas’ rep said that the former couple had a “cordial meeting in New York” last Sunday, where Turner had arrived to be with their children.

“They have been with her since that meeting. Joe’s impression of the meeting was that they had come to an agreement that they would work together toward an amicable co-parenting arrangement,” the statement said.
