EXCLUSIVE: Selling Sunset star Mary Fitzgerald admits she needs ‘more time to heal’ before trying for new baby after heartbreaking miscarriage – as she reveals the physical and emotional ‘toll’ it took on her

Sunset favorite Mary Fitzgerald hasn’t given up hope that she and her husband Romaine Bonnet will start a family after she suffered a miscarriage – but she just needs ‘more time’ to heal first.

The luxury estate agent, 43, went broke in the new season when she confided in best friend Amanza Smith – less than 24 hours after doctors broke the devastating news during an ultrasound appointment, with producers keen to capture her ‘raw emotions’.

She was forced to undergo surgery after learning she had also suffered a septic miscarriage, a miscarriage that occurs when pregnancy tissue left in the uterus causes a uterine infection.

Speaking about the recovery, she told DailyMail.com exclusively: ‘I’m doing well. It took a while, and longer than I thought it would take to get through it emotionally.

‘With the septic miscarriage it took a toll on my body physically and so it took longer to heal and process than I thought.

‘I know the chances of getting pregnant the next month after a miscarriage are much higher, but I wasn’t ready for it. If something were to happen again… I just need more time.”

When asked if she would continue documenting her fertility journey on camera, Mary admitted that she would wait until she was past the 12-week ‘safe zone’ if she became pregnant again.

β€œIt doesn’t really change anything for me,” she continued. β€œI mean, the loss is a loss, and I might as well share it because I think it helps other people.

‘It’s very common and I think the more open people can be about it, talking to other people and understanding that it’s very common and hearing their stories for whatever reason, you’ll feel better.

“So I think people can help each other by just talking about it more so that it becomes less taboo.”

As for her marriage to Romain, whom she married at a private home in Los Angeles in 2019, Mary insisted they are stronger than ever.

β€œHe’s my rock,” she said. β€œHe is the sweetest, most wonderful partner I could ever hope for.

β€œAnd it’s crazy: I mean, we haven’t always had a perfect relationship. But I think we did very, very well. We come out stronger and stronger, from everything we go through.’

Mary previously told DailyMail.com that she filmed the heartbreaking moment she broke the news of her miscarriage to Amanza, just hours after doctors delivered the devastating blow.

She said Romain initially banned crews from entering the property to film scenes planned before she received the news.

But Mary let them in to film the next morning because she wanted to be “open,” saying Netflix had scaled back the crew size to be as sensitive as possible.

“Actually, we were going to have a scene that night, and we were going to show the ultrasounds and stuff, and then we found out Romain called production,” she recalled.

‘He said, ‘You’re not coming. If you come to our home, you will not be allowed on the premises. Don’t come, we need a minute to just be alone and grieve.”

She continued, β€œThey also wanted to have the raw emotions and the moment and I understand that.

β€œIt’s hard for me to do it, but I understood. If I share the pregnancy, I also have to be open about miscarriage and yes, it was tough.’

When asked if she felt any pressure from Netflix to film so soon after the devastating loss, she said, β€œAs far as that scene goes, if I had really pushed back, they would have understood and they would have let it go.

β€œBut I understood what their reasoning was and at that point, making a scene wouldn’t change anything.

“I was like, I have to talk about it, I have to do it.”

She also emphasized that the crew was “very supportive” and “really showed me how great they are.”

“They’ve been really supportive during the pregnancy and trying to keep me out of all the drama and stuff because they know it’s really, really affecting me,” she said.

‘And once the miscarriage happened, they were also very understanding and supportive. If I couldn’t do something, or if I just needed time, that was fine with them too.’

In December 2022, Mary revealed that she and Romaine did “a round of embryo freezing” that “didn’t work.”

The reality star is a mother to son, Austin Babbitt, 26, whom she welcomed when she was 16.
