EXCLUSIVE – PICTURED: NYC dad, 41, who stabbed his wife, 40, and two sons, one and three, to death after fearing he’d lose job as superintendent in days before massacre: Boy so badly brutalized cops thought he was a girl
A father suspected of killing his wife and two young children in a murder-suicide at their posh Manhattan apartment had recently told friends of his joy at the birth of his second son.
It is believed that Edison Lopez, 41, stabbed to death his wife, Alexandra Witek, 40, and their two sons, Calvin, one, and Lucien, three, before pointing a knife at himself.
Lopez was the best man at the wedding of Alfonso Barrera’s son Luis and shared a photo of the superman during the ceremony about 11 years ago.
Alfonso, 84, who visited the apartment Tuesday morning to pay tribute, said: ‘My son called me and said, did you hear what happened? my son couldn’t sleep last night he cried and cried.
“Edison was a nice guy, part of my family. Everyone thought he was my son’s brothers. And his wife was a nice girl, beautiful, very nice.’
Neighbors of their Upper West Side apartment, where Lopez was super close, said Lopez was known in the area as a nice guy and a family man who often took his kids to Central Park, which is only a few blocks away.

He is said to have been annoyed in recent days, telling friends that managers at his building “want me out.”
Friends told DailyMail.com that he was worried about his job and feared that another opportunity he was pursuing had gone wrong.
One of them, who saw Lopez last week, said he seemed agitated, upset and delirious when he spoke about his job concerns.
This is reported by police sources New York Post that one of the young boy’s bodies had been beaten so badly that officers thought it was a girl.
Jimmy Moloon, a USPS mail carrier who knew the family through his rounds in the area, said Lopez spoke of his joy just a year ago after the one-year-old victim was born.
Moloon said Lopez and Alexandra were high school sweethearts who shared a “beautiful family.”
“He was a very polite person, a very nice guy,” Moloon said.
It didn’t seem like he had a problem. I am shocked, especially because he was very happy when he had the last child.
“He was very happy, I said I am very happy for you that you have a new child. I try to think in my mind what was the reason, his motivation for something like that.
“I often saw his wife come out together. I don’t know if they were going to go to the park or whatever. He was a family man, I used to talk to him all the time. His father was the Super in that building.

She was devoted to her two boys. They just celebrated their son’s one year old birthday a few weeks ago, they were good friends with other kids in the building.
“They always seemed very happy and everyone thought they were a great family. He had a job scheduled and we were told they were leaving.’
