EXCLUSIVE Out with the old! Inside the marital home Helen Skelton bought and restored with estranged husband Richie Myler – as star looks to ‘move on and make a fresh start’ with £500,000 profit from the sale

Helen Skelton hopes to make half a million pounds from the sale of the marital home she lovingly renovated with her estranged husband Richie Myler for £1.8 million, we can reveal.

The television personality has marketed the former family home in Yorkshire to make a fresh start following the collapse of her nine-year marriage to rugby star Richie earlier this year.

The sprawling property consists of two interconnected houses with eight bedrooms, six bathrooms, four reception rooms, an annex and a heated outdoor pool.

The former couple have spent a total of £1.1 million purchasing the two adjoining properties in an exclusive gated community.

They bought in January 2020 for £500,000 and the other was bought by them in May 2021 for £635,000.

Having spent an estimated £250,000 to both interconnect and carry out extensive refurbishment, Helen put the property on the market for £1.8 million, resulting in a profit of around £500,000.

The lavish house is set in two acres of south facing landscaped gardens and has a four car garage.

A source told MailOnline: ‘The properties are in both Helen and Richie’s names, so they will clearly have to figure out what they’re going to do with the money they make from the sale.

But it’s another sign that Helen is moving on with her life and the fact that she’s on the verge of making a substantial profit is a small bonus in this difficult time. A lot of love and thought has gone into creating this home and I’m sure she will have a hard time selling it.

“It’s been a tough time for Helen, but she’s moving on with her life, leaving the marriage behind and wanting to make a fresh start.”

A website advertising the house for sale describes it as ‘an absolute gem of a property’ that perfectly combines period features with contemporary finishes.

It adds: ‘(They) are two interconnected properties, being made available to purchase together for the first time ever.’

Split: Helen Skelton has since moved out of the beautiful family home and is said to be ‘moving on’ with her life following her divorce from Richie

Nice: The former single-family home has more than enough space with a total of six bathrooms

Family home: the couple shares three children, who lived with them in the family home: Ernie, eight, Louis, five, and 16-month-old daughter Elsie

Earlier this week, Helen announced she was quitting her show on BBC Radio 5 Live so she could spend more time with her children.

Speaking to her fellow 5 Live presenter Steve Crossman, Helen said in a cracking voice: ‘I don’t think it’s right, but you have to. The juggling is real.’

The star, who split from Richie last year, took a thinly veiled swipe at her ex, adding that she wanted to be around to watch her kids at their weekend sports games, while telling listeners that “there’s a eight-year-old with a sideline that needs me’.

Since their marriage ended, Richie has had a baby with new girlfriend Stephanie Thirkill, 32, the daughter of Andrew, the president of Leeds Rhinos.

Former Strictly Come Dancing star Helen and Richie married in 2013 and moved into their Yorkshire property together seven years later.

As Helen moves on with her life, she’s also revealed to have launched herself back into the dating scene.

A source said: ‘Helen’s family and friends have been encouraging her to get back out there and she was happy to get her toe back into the dating scene, but she’s had some wobbles and found herself feeling guilty. She worries about who to let into her life and worries about being judged for decisions she makes.

“There are also some people who have made comments about her not trying hard enough to make it work with Richie, and it has made her think about her marriage and what went wrong.

“In the end, she knows she tried everything she could, and once the trust was broken, there was just no turning back. But dating again has brought up some unexpected feelings that she struggles with.”

It comes after a source revealed, ‘Having had her trust broken, she’s nowhere near ready for an all-in long-term romance.

But she doesn’t shut herself off from anything anymore. She is open to new adventures in every way and strives to say ‘yes’ to more things that turn her on.”

It was reported this month that Helen has reportedly come under fire from BBC bosses after plugging brands during her time on TV show Morning Live.

The star has gone against the broadcaster’s strict guidelines by tagging the clothing, jewelery and cake maker brands in her Instagram posts.

Guidelines state that ‘no talent should advertise on-air any products, goods, services or clothing they use’.

The BBC, which is funded by the license fee, does not allow advertisements or product placements on its television or radio outputs or on its websites.

Helen has since removed the tags and has not received payment for mentioning the brands on her social media channel.
