Naomi Campbell can be seen having a ‘pre-menopausal hot flash’ in a candid moment featured in the upcoming documentary, The Super Models.
In the Apple TV+ docuseries, the runway icon chronicles her groundbreaking career alongside fellow supermodels Cindy Crawford, Linda Evangelista and Christy Turlington, as the legendary stars reflect on how they came to dominate the fashion industry.
Early in the fourth episode, Naomi, 53, is seen getting nervous on the set of a photo shoot as she exclaims, “I think I’m going through menopause. It’s pre-early menopause.’
Director Larissa Bill spoke exclusively to DailyMail.com about capturing the fashion superstar in such a candid moment: ‘It’s such a real moment, isn’t it? To see these women in moments where you think, “Oh, that’s so relatable… and that’s Naomi Campbell.” It’s so great.’

The London-born model looks sweaty and nervous in the relatable moment as she sighs: “I just walked into an oven.”
A male voice is then heard asking if she is okay, to which she replies, “No, I think I’m in menopause.” It is pre-early menopause. Pre-menopause.’
When asked if she would like a “little bit of wind” to cool down, the model replies: “There’s nothing you can do.” It just happens. S**t, Lord.
“One minute, I’m fine. The next moment only this furnace comes to the surface… why don’t men get menopause?’
Co-director Roger Ross Williams added: “Naomi is clearly going through menopause, like any woman.”
Perimenopause is the phase before menopause. During this time, your hormones begin to change, but your periods have not stopped for good.
It usually occurs in women between the ages of 45 and 60 and can last for several months or several years. If you have not had your period for 12 months or more, you have officially reached menopause.
The mother of two children can also be heard saying in a confessional interview: ‘Aging, your body changes and everything changes…

You also hear Naomi say in a confessional interview: ‘Getting older, your body changes and everything changes…’
“There have been times when I’ve said, ‘Okay, I’m going to slow down, I’m going to pull back. But… my energy is still the same.'”
Naomi surprised fans around the world when she announced that she had welcomed her first child in May 2021.
Naomi offered a first look at her newcomer with a photo of her baby daughter, whose name has still not been revealed: “A beautiful little blessing has chosen me to be her mother.
“I am so honored to have this gentle soul in my life. There are no words to describe the lifelong bond I now share with you, my angel. There is no greater love.”
In June 2023, the British fashion star shared on social media the news that she had welcomed her second child, saying “it’s never too late to become a mother.”
Naomi posted a photo of the child and saw her cradling the baby boy while her two-year-old daughter held his hand.

Larissa explained how they managed to get the private models to open up like never before in the new documentary: “Roger and I met all of them before filming, just on our own, without cameras. I think that helped establish this kind of safe zone… I think we built a really nice bond there during those interviews.”
The docuseries had been in the works for some time before Roger and Larissa were approached to direct in 2021, with the pair jumping at the chance to help the Supers tell their story.
Roger admitted, “I grew up with these women. I think it’s so exciting to be able to help them really tell their stories, because that’s not the case with us. We had not heard from them directly. We only heard their stories filtered through the media, and they were given the opportunity to own their own stories and tell their own stories. And that’s the beauty of it.’
Elsewhere in the documentary, the models discuss the fact that Naomi was held back early in their careers due to the racism she faced in the industry.
Despite now being known as the queen of the catwalk, the model was repeatedly ignored by fashion designers when it came time to book models for their catwalk shows.

The tide officially started to turn when people like Christy and Linda refused to run unless their friend was also booked for the job.
Reflecting on how the models helped each other’s careers at a time when others expected them to be more competitive, Larissa said, “I liken it to being at camp.
“They’re young, in their teens, and they go to such an amazing camp where they find themselves in such crazy situations with a lot of people in a new environment, and that creates a lifelong bond.”
The documentary also gave the models a chance to share their side regarding the stigma of becoming ‘divas’ due to their massive success.
“They say that about a man like Elon Musk, the richest man in the world,” Roger said in defense of the models. ‘It’s crazy. As Naomi says in the film: if you stand up for yourself, you are labeled as ab***h, and you are labeled as difficult. If someone stands up for themselves, that’s fine. But as a black woman, no.”
The new series also sees Evangelista breaking down in tears as she admits she thought she ‘deserved’ to be left ‘disfigured’ by a botched cosmetic procedure.
The Supermodels can be streamed on Apple TV+ from September 20.
