EXCLUSIVE: MKR winners Janelle and Monzir reveal how they spent their $100k cash prize – as they spill on what Nigella Lawson and Manu Feildel are really like off camera

My Kitchen Rules winners Janelle Halil and Monzir Hamdin bagged a $100,000 cash prize after entering the competition last year.

And on Wednesday, the pair were full of surprises when they revealed how they spent the staggering pile of money during an extended conversation with Daily Mail Australia.

Instead of reaching the Chanel or Versace boutiques, the lovebirds stayed sober, split the prize and put together a house security.

“My went for half and Janelle bought a car with it. So she put $25,000 in a car and the other $25,000 in a home security,” Monzir said.

“For my half, I did half for the house and half for the business. I built it from the ground up because it costs a lot of money.’

The couple is now fleeing Monzellewhich offers cookbooks and Monzir’s Sudanese Agashe spice blend, as well as doing pop-ups at food festivals.

The couple went on to explain how the MKR judges were off-camera, including veteran star Manu Feildel and Nigella Lawson, who they had a soft spot for.

“My most favorite experience was meeting Nigella Lawson,” Janelle said. “I just wanted to (jokingly) die when I knew she was going to be there. Life purpose.’

The couple added that they loved French chef Manu during the experience.

‘We love Manu. He was always so friendly and kind to us. The other judges were too, but he has this (kindness)” Janelle said.

Monzir agreed, adding, “When I met him in person, I had this expectation of him, but now it’s more. He’s actually a really nice guy. Warm and friendly.’

Janelle and Monzir both agreed that anyone hoping for an immediate post-reality show career is in for a rude shock.

‘Does it boost your (work) profile? No. You really have to work on it after the show,” Janelle said.

She added that the contestants looking for instant money and fame from reality TV should think about it.

“Honestly, our season didn’t allow us to pin down our personalities because it didn’t last as long as the other seasons,” Janelle said.

“So we did have a drawback: it was a little shorter and we didn’t get enough time on the air,” she said.

“We didn’t have that much time for the audience to get to know us, I guess. But after the show we had to work very hard to keep our profile.’

“For me, I have to do better and better,” he said.

The pair admitted that they would love to go to an All Stars season if invited by Seven.

“I feel like I thrive in those areas, I like being myself… Reality TV is definitely something I enjoy,” said Janelle.
