EXCLUSIVE: Jodie Turner-Smith’s family are ‘shocked’ by her divorce from Joshua Jackson after he was left ‘heartbroken’ by the surprise split

Jodie Turner-Smith’s family is in shock over her impending divorce from Joshua Jackson.

The actress’ husband was “heartbroken” when she filed for divorce on Monday after almost four years together.

Joshua, 45, who was pictured without a wedding ring on Tuesday, ‘isn’t happy’ about the end of his marriage – but insisted there is no one else involved and their union has simply ‘run its course’.

It has now emerged that Jodie’s own family in Britain had no idea about the divorce bombshell and were also left stunned by the dramatic events in the wedding this week.

A family source told us: ‘We were all shocked and saddened to hear about the split and are now thinking of Jodie and wishing her well.

The British branch of the family comes from Peterborough in Cambridgeshire.

The source added: ‘Jodie’s family is spread across Britain, Jamaica and the US.’

The couple – who share three-year-old daughter Juno Rose Diana – listed their divorce date as September 13, according to TMZ. However, it wasn’t until this week that 37-year-old Jodie filed for divorce, citing ‘irreconcilable differences’.

Previously, a source revealed: ‘Joshua is heartbroken over the divorce, he always thought he would get married and grow old with his family and everything would be happily ever after.

“He had the dream scenario in his head, and Jodie was his person and the person he thought he would be forever.”

The Canadian source added that Joshua’s main concern is his young child, as the Canadian actor is now looking ahead to a life of co-parenting.

“He never wanted this for their daughter,” the insider continued.

‘They are both great parents and will continue to be, he is just sad that they will no longer be together as a couple for their daughter. Through her they will always remain connected.’

The insider claimed that Joshua would want nothing more than to reunite with his estranged wife, adding: “He would have wanted nothing more than to still be with Jodie and in a perfect world he would probably even take her back if she would stop the divorce. ‘, but now that they’ve arrived here, he’ll have to accept it.’

The source also emphasized that there was no bad behavior on either side and said the relationship had simply reached its natural end.

“Nothing terrible happened between the two like infidelity, the relationship just ran its course and it’s just a sad time,” the spokesperson said.

‘Joshua is not happy about it, but as we all know, life doesn’t always go the way you would like.’

The couple looked loved up on September 12 as they attended their last public event together during New York Fashion Week – just one day before they officially split.

Famed divorce attorney Laura Wasser is representing Jodie, with the actress seeking joint custody of their daughter.

She does not want spousal support for her and Joshua, as the couple does not have a prenuptial agreement.

In September 2022, the pair sparked split rumors after unfollowing each other on social media – having previously shared several loved-up posts.

They then followed up again, with Joshua brushing off split speculation while talking about his wife in a conversation with E! News.

“She is undeniably one of the most beautiful women in the world,” he said. “And she always kills it when she’s on the red carpet. That is truly a miracle to see.

Surprising: It has now emerged that Jodie’s family in Britain had no idea about the divorce bombshell and were also stunned by the dramatic events in the wedding this week

“But let me tell you, there’s nothing like waking up in the morning, opening my eyes and seeing her face in the morning.”

Jodie and Joshua married in 2019, after meeting through mutual friends in 2018 and initially insisting their romance was just ‘casual’.

The actress had even previously revealed that their romance started as a one-night stand but it never ended.

In 2021, Jodie appeared on Late Night with Seth Meyers and joked about how despite a fast start, their relationship was still going strong.

“When I first met my husband, we had a one night stand,” she told the host. “We’ve been in a one-night stand for two or three years now.”

She then told Seth the story of how they met at a party and how they both felt an instant connection.

“First of all, I saw him before he saw me, and when I saw him I was like, ‘I want that,’” she said. “And when he saw me, I pretended not to see him.”

Although she didn’t seem impressed by Joshua’s opening line, she explained how he came around and did his “cute and charming thing.”

“All night long he followed me around the party,” The Last Ship actress added. ‘He felt the energy. He felt it.’

The pair started dating in October 2018 and married in December 2019 after the actress proposed during a New Year’s Eve holiday in Nicaragua, with Joshua ‘instinctively’ saying yes.

Turner-Smith was born in Peterborough to Jamaican parents and lived in the city until she was 10 years old. When her parents Eron and Hilda divorced, she emigrated to the United States with her mother, brother and half-sister and settled in Maryland.

She studied finance at the University of Pittsburgh and graduated in 2008, initially working at a bank.

Jodie was convinced to change career directions after a chance meeting with Pharrell Williams, who convinced her to become a model and move to Los Angeles. She made her acting debut in 2013 when she played a siren in the HBO series True Blood.

The British star rose to fame after starring in the 2019 film Queen & Slim.

Joshua has been acting since 1991 and played the role of Pacey Witter on the popular teen show Dawson’s Creek from 1998 to 2003.

In October 2020, it was announced that Turner-Smith would controversially play Queen Anne Boleyn in a three-part drama series on Channel 5.

The casting was met with backlash over her race, and when the film premiered the following year, she was praised for her performance, although critics panned the writing and plot.
