Exclusive Inside Out 2 Clip Dives Into Bloofy’s Origins
One of the best jokes in Inside Out 2 comes when Joy and the rest of the emotions get locked in Riley’s vault of secrets. Inside this secure bank vault, they encounter some of Riley’s embarrassing fictional favorites, including brooding handsome boy video game character Lance Slashblade and hyperactive cartoon children’s dog Bloofy.
We’ve already gotten the DL on how Lance Slashblade came to life, but a new behind-the-scenes clip reveals Bloofy’s origin story. While Bloofy’s name is reminiscent of the popular Australian cartoon dog Bluey, the character shares more DNA with shows like Blue’s directions And Dora the Explorer. Bloofy speaks directly to the audience, encouraging young viewers to get involved and help out. And in the case of Inside Out 2that is to say, he is standing in front of a blank wall.
In the new clip, story artist McKenna Harris says they were inspired by the preschool cartoons they watched when they weren’t quite their target audience. Everything else came together — Bloofy’s 2D design, the fourth-wall-breaking joke (there’s even a clip of director Kelsey Mann demonstrating it over a Zoom meeting), and his over-the-top didactic dialogue — to create an absolutely hilarious character.
Inside Out 2 will be available digitally from August 20th and on Blu-Ray and DVD from September 10th.
