EXCLUSIVE: Gilgo Beach serial killer suspect Rex Heuermann’s wife Asa Ellerup WILL attend court hearings ‘to see evidence for herself’ – it’s revealed she visited him in jail for the first time this week

The wife of alleged Gilgo Beach serial killer Rex Heuermann will come to court to see for herself if there is evidence he committed the atrocities he is accused of.

Asa Ellerup visited the Manhattan architect for the first time since he was arrested on July 13 and spent up to an hour with him on Wednesday.

She filed for divorce six days after Heuermann, 60, was accused of killing three sex workers whose bodies were found between 2010 and 2011 on the deserted stretch of shoreline near their Long Island Home.

Standing outside the family home in Massapequa Park on Friday, her lawyer Robert Macedonia confirmed the visit to DailyMail.com and said she would attend her husband’s trial to see if he is guilty of the crimes.

‘She wants to hear and see how it plays out in court. Not what the media put out. Not what the podcast people say,” he said.

“Certainly, not what John Ray says, she wants to hear and see for herself what is presented in court,” Macedonia added, referring to John Ray, lawyer for the families of two women found dead on the eastern peninsula of New York. .

Heuermann is accused of killing Melissa Barthelemy, Megan Waterman and Amber Lynn Costello, who disappeared in 2009 and 2010.

Authorities said he is also the “prime suspect” in the murder of Maureen Brainard-Barnes.

Ellerup was home Friday with her two children and what appeared to be a television or production crew.

Her son Christopher was seen leaving the house to walk the dog, and her daughter also appeared outside.

Ellerup, wearing a beige vest and black pants, did not want to speak to the media, but her lawyer spoke on her behalf.

‘It goes well with her. She is holding up well,” Macedonia said. ‘She visited Rex on Wednesday afternoon and spent about an hour with him.

‘I did not enter into a discussion about the content of the conversation.’

He added: “She had not seen him in person since the day before his arrest. Other than that she’s doing well.’

Asked if she supported Heuermann, Macedonia said: “She wants to see and hear for herself what evidence they have that he did this.”

Macedonia added: “The media and everyone in the area condemned him. In situations like this you are guilty until proven guilty.’

He revealed that Ellerup had gone to prison alone on Wednesday and that her two children did not accompany her.

Macedonia said she is adjusting to her new life without Heuermann. ‘Every day this becomes the new normal. Since July 13, this has been the new normal,” he said.

“You’re adapting…every day it gets a little better to be what the new normal is. It’s like after someone dies in the beginning. She and the children are doing well.’

He emphasized that her visit to prison was like any other visit to a loved one.

“It’s the same as any other visitor who has to go through the same routine, a one-hour visit, there’s no special treatment for Rex like any other inmate,” he said.

“She made her reservation for the visit, as did everyone else, through sheriff’s office policy at the Riverhead Correctional Facility.”

Macedonia said Ellerup has no future plans to see him in prison and that “life is on hold until this trial is over.”

‘You have to survive. You go into survival mode. You have your children to take care of. You have a life to rebuild,” he added.

“Whatever it will be, it will never be what it was and move on. It will never be what it was again. And maybe that’s a good thing. Don’t know.’

But he said his client “doesn’t seem angry at all.”

‘You’re in survival mode. There is no time for anger. You have to survive,” the lawyer said.

‘How are you going to support yourself? How are you going to take care of these children? What are you going to do with the mortgage?’

Members of a production crew walked around the family estate and at one point were in the backyard.

They were seen loading equipment into a vehicle.

When a woman was approached and asked what was going on, she apologized and said, “we’re not allowed to say… I’m sorry.”

Later in the day, Macedonia was seen escorting Ellerup from her home in his silver Mercedes, where he drove her a block away to a neighbor’s house where lunch was served to her and members of the television or production team.

Her children were driven separately from their home by someone in a dark SUV.

As for their home, Macedonia said there are no plans to move until the trial is over.

Heuermann’s next court appearance is scheduled for Wednesday, but it is believed no hearings will take place.
