Ex-SNL writer Kevin Brennan was seen for the first time since mocking Matthew Perry’s death — the same day he dropped a new podcast titled “Some Junkie Died.”
The Friends actor was found dead in a hot tub with him at home on Saturday at the age of 54 – the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office said his cause of death has been “deferred” and the investigation is considered “ongoing.”
Shortly afterwards, Brennan, 63, was criticized for sharing a tweet about Perry’s death with the caption: “DROWNED IN A HOT TUB. HAHAHAHA.’
He refused to back down after an outpouring of disgust, returning to write: ‘I didn’t mock it. I just thought it was funny. But I do like it when junkies die.’
On Monday he added: “Am I trending yet?”
On Tuesday, he was spotted for the first time since the incident and shared an episode of his podcast, Misery Loves Company, in which he reiterated his thoughts.

The comic was spotted on his bicycle on Tuesday afternoon with two white shopping bags
Opening the podcast, he apologized for being late and joked that he had been “detained” in connection with Perry’s death.
He said: ‘Sorry for the delay, I was detained by the authorities. Clumsy as F***. The authorities are involved, this is what you do when you tweet ‘Hahahaha’. You can’t tweet Hahahaha, they act like I killed him.
“They wanted to talk to me, did I have something to do with the jacuzzi, or did I convince him to go swimming late at night?”
Brennan, from Chicago, was a writer for SNL’s Weekend Update from 1999 to 2000. He was reportedly ‘passed over’ following Colin Quinn’s departure as presenter.
The Chicago native is estranged from his younger brother, comedian Neal Brennan. Although Kevin has fallen into relative obscurity in recent decades, his brother has written for several shows and has a comedy special on Netflix.
He dated fellow comedian Sarah Silverman in the 1980s and is known for talking about other comedians and stand-up routines on his podcast, including his brother, whom he has repeatedly accused of stealing jokes.
Vile: On Sunday he replied: ‘I didn’t mock it. I just thought it was funny. But I love it when junkies die
Nasty: In response to a user who asked Kevin, “Why is drowning in a hot tub funny?” he replied: ‘Because it is not very deep’
Doubling down: Kevin, who hosts a podcast called Misery Loves Company, then responded to a tweet from TMZ’s coverage of his comments with the headline “Ex-SNL writer-comedian Kevin Brennan mocks Matthew Perry’s death”
On the latest episode of his podcast, he mentioned the other cast members of Friends, saying, “If those other cast members were such good ‘friends,’ why didn’t they help him?” Why did they let him swim alone in a jacuzzi?
“If Courteney Cox had died in a hot tub, I would have said, ‘That’s horrible.’
He added: “I wasn’t joking about it, I just thought it was funny. But I love it when junkies die. Yeah, I love it when junkies die. Because how else are we going to learn the lesson that drugs are bad.’
Brennan claimed he was suspended from X, formerly Twitter, as a result of his tweets, but said, “I’m not deleting it.”
The outburst from Perry’s fans continued on Twitter.
One said: ‘Kevin Brennan should be ashamed of himself for disrespecting Matthew Perry’s death. I hope he doesn’t have to experience the hardships he suffered while he was alive. God will punish you for the insult.”
Another added: ‘Who is Kevin Brennan…ha he will never be remembered but Matthew will.’
Brennan declined to comment when contacted by DailyMail.com earlier today.

Fan messages included: “Thanks for always making us laugh” and “Friends is my comfort show, thanks for the laughs, you will be missed man!”
Perry was a smoker and also struggled with addiction to alcohol and opiates, but said he was clean shortly before his death.
He wanted to be remembered for helping fellow addicts, saying in a November 2022 interview: “The best thing about me – bar none – is when someone comes up to me and says, ‘I can’t stop drinking, can you help me? ‘ I can say ‘Yes’, follow up and do it. That is the best.
“And I’ve been saying this for a long time: When I die, I don’t want ‘Friends’ to be the first thing mentioned.
“I want this to be the first thing that comes up, and I’m going to have to spend the rest of my life proving that.”
