EXCLUSIVE: Britney Spears is ‘relieved’ that her child support payments to ex Kevin Federline for their son Sean Preston will END in matter of weeks when child turns 18
With Britney Spears’ son Sean turning 18 in less than two weeks, the singer is “relieved” to no longer have to pay tens of thousands of child support payments to her ex, Kevin Federline, every month.
“Britney is relieved that Sean turns 18 on September 14 because she’s tired of paying Kevin the crazy amount he’s getting,” says a source close to the singer, who is estranged from Sean and his younger brother, age 17 . -old Jayden, for over a year now – tells DailyMail.com exclusively.
“Britney likes to help Sean and Jayden. There’s nothing she wouldn’t do for her sons. But this would go straight to them after they turn 18 instead of Kevin,” the source said, adding that Britney’s friends believe “it’s time for Kevin to get a job.”
Kevin moved his entire family — including Sean, Jayden, and his other four children — to Hawaii, where his current wife, Victoria Prince, reportedly got a teaching job at the University of Hawaii. There was widespread speculation that this was done so Kevin could continue raising money for Sean and Jayden.
In California, child support ends when a child finishes high school or turns 19, whichever comes first.
This is where the money stops: Britney Spears (with her sons Sean, 17, and Jayden, 16) is ‘relieved’ that her child support payments to Kevin will stop when Sean turns 18 on Sept. 14
Aloha: Kevin Federline, 45 (with sons Sean and Jayden) moved to Hawaii last month, where a parent can collect child support until a child is 23 if they are in school
Swagger: Britney (with Kevin in 2005) has been estranged from her sons for over a year and a source says there’s ‘nothing she wouldn’t do’ for Sean and Jayden
Child support laws differ in Hawaii in that a parent can collect child support until the child turns 23 if their child is enrolled in a university or vocational school. Since Sean graduated from high school in June, many assumed that Kevin would take advantage of this loophole.
However, if the child support was established in another state, the revised Act 576B-611 (2016) has the exclusive jurisdiction of the state in which it is located, stating verbatim: “In proceedings to modify an alimony order, is the law of the state found to have issued the initial control order, governs the duration of the aid obligation.’
This means that Britney’s child support payments for Sean will end on September 14.
Britney will still have to pay child support for Jayden until he turns 18, which is September 12, 2024 – almost a year after Sean has reached adulthood.
DailyMail.com has reached out to representatives for Britney and Kevin for comment.
The Toxic singer has had a tough month. As fans know, her third husband, 29-year-old Sam Asghari, filed for divorce on August 16 after 14 months of marriage, citing irreconcilable differences.
He asks her for spousal support, which probably won’t happen since they have a watertight prenuptial agreement.
Kevin — whom Britney married in 2004 and divorced three years later in 2007 — also couldn’t get spousal support because of the iron prenuptial agreement that was made before their marriage.
But that doesn’t mean Kevin hasn’t been able to make any money.
In addition to Sean and Jayden, Kevin has four other children: two daughters with his wife Victoria, and a son and daughter with his ex, Shar Jackson.
A year after Britney’s chaotic divorce from Kevin, she had a nervous breakdown that left her in a conservatory from 2007 to 2021 under her 71-year-old father, Jamie.
As a result, Kevin was given sole physical and legal custody of the boys.
In May 2018, Kevin asked for an increase in child support for both of their sons by $40,000 a month – from $20,000 to $60,000.
Britney’s father Jamie rejected Kevin’s initial request. The case was sealed and it is unknown how much raise Kevin received.
Court documents at the time showed that Britney paid an additional $15,000 per month for school and extracurricular activities, bringing the total payments to Kevin each month to $35,000.
There is hope: Kevin’s lawyer Mark Vincent Kaplan revealed that Britney (with Sean and Jayden several years ago) was able to talk to her sons before they moved to the island
Party of five: Kevin (with four of his six children in early 2010) requested an increase in Child support from $20,000 to $60,000 in 2018
That means Britney has been paying Kevin at least $420,000 a year for the past 15 years.
The documents also stated that she paid her father $128,000 a year to act as a conservator and that she coughed up $384,126.38 for other expenses, including bills and food.
Her net worth was set at $56,562,912.38 at the time.
Kevin’s plans to move his sons to Hawaii first came to light in May, and a source told DailyMail.com at the time that Britney had always supported the move.
The source said Britney has “always been a loving and supportive mother” and has never opposed the plan to have her sons move out.
“Britney loves her kids, has always supported them and wants them to be happy,” they said.
“Apart from being an icon, loved and respected by millions around the world, she has been a loving and supportive mother, faithfully supporting her children.”
The source also slammed Kevin for creating a “false dispute” when Britney never interfered in his plan to move their kids to Hawaii.
This comes after Kevin gave her a deadline to approve his plan to move their sons to Hawaii – or threatened to go to court to get a judge to approve the move.
Kevin’s attorney Mark Vincent Kaplan told TMZ that he had asked Spears’ attorney Mathew Rosengart “several times” to send a letter or email saying the pop star was “okay with the move,” but had received nothing.
It was also alleged at the time that Britney hadn’t seen her sons for “over a year.”
Britney has previously shared her grief over the strained relationship with her beloved sons.
A year ago, Kevin was criticized for giving an explosive interview with 60 Minutes Australia. The interview included footage of him with his family, as well as clips of their children.
The former backup dancer said the “guys have decided they’re not seeing her now,” noting that it’s been a tough few months for them since a judge ruled she had to end her 13-year conservatorship.
He also said he was deeply touched to see her breakdown after the end of their marriage.
“I was terrified of her. I really was,” he said, adding, “I still feel bad.”
Kevin said of his marriage to Britney, “It was great – until it wasn’t.”
Britney responded to Kevin’s shocking interview on Instagram on August 6, 2022.
“I am saddened to learn that my ex-husband has decided to discuss the relationship between me and my children,” she wrote.
“As we all know raising teenage boys is not easy for anyone…it worries me that the reason is based on my Instagram…it took a LONG time before Instagram…I gave them everything…Just one word: PAINFUL.’
Sam also tried his best, writing, “The boys are very smart and will be 18 soon so they can make their own decisions and will eventually realize that the ‘hard’ part was that they had a father who had been with them for over 15 years. has not worked much as a role model. .’
Britney and Kevin dated for three months in 2004 before getting engaged in July of that year. They married two months later, in September 2004.
The pop superstar gave birth to Sean in September 2005 and Jayden followed about a year later in 2006, but she filed for divorce in November 2006, which was finalized the following year.
Britney is now preparing to release her memoir, The Woman In Me, in November.
