Bill Belichick is currently in no danger of losing his job with the Patriots, a source told DailyMail.com.
The seat of Belichick, the legendary head coach who won six Super Bowls with the Patriots, is feeling a little warmer because of his team’s awful 1-5 start this season.
And while owner Robert Kraft has ‘considered’ a future without the 71-year-old, there will be no head coaching changes this season.
“Things have been bad lately for the New England Patriots and with Boston being such a big sports city, fans want to put Bill on the chopping block if the team continues to struggle,” they said.
“Robert Kraft, who always wants to win, and New England has been spoiled with so much success over the past twenty years that Robert has thought about what it would look like if the team moved on from Belichick, but then he realizes that Bill is in his eyes and that of many others is the best coach ever in NFL history, then he brings things back to reality and ultimately wants him to stay.
Bill Belichick’s Patriots are just 1-5 to start the season – with a historic loss in Week 4
But owner Robert Kraft will remain loyal to the team’s longtime coach, a source told DailyMail.cp:
Quarterback Mac Jones and the rest of the offense have struggled mightily so far
“So the rumors that Robert wants to fire Bill are nowhere near reality at this point. “Robert is more than willing to give Bill a little leash and is willing to go through some tough times to get back to the promised land,” the source continued.
The Patriots have reached the postseason just once in the three full seasons since Tom Brady left for the Buccaneers, and playoff football this year seems unlikely for the Belichick bunch given the team’s brutal start.
In fact, the Patriots are not only losing, but getting blown out, as their 35-point loss to the Cowboys in Week 4 was the largest margin of Belichick’s career.
The team then followed that up with a 34-0 loss to the Saints the following week.
Belichick’s job could be in jeopardy next year if things don’t change, the source said, but for now he has some wiggle room.
“If the same thing happens next season as this season, it’s more likely that Bill will be fired, but this year his job is very safe,” they said.
