EXCLUSIVE: Ben O’Toole says Stan’s new star-studded series C*A*U*G*H*T will annoy viewers
Actor Ben O’Toole has unveiled his new Australian Stan Original Series CAPTURED will ‘scratch’ for viewers hungry for some quality Aussie programming.
The Hacksaw Ridge star, 34, plays Rowdy Gaines in the zany six-episode action-comedy series that follows four Australian soldiers sent on a secret mission to a war-torn country.
O’Toole told Daily Mail Australia that his bawdy new series will appeal to many viewers looking for an over-the-top, groundbreaking show.
“I think it will cause an itch that people don’t realize they’ve had for a while.” A lot of things have been censored over the years,” he began.
‘So the Australian audience has been relying on international material for a long time. This show is brave and Stan really wanted to build on every idea we had and take it as far as he could.”
The Stan Original series, C*A*U*G*H*T, is streaming now and is only available on Stan.

“It’s rare in Australian television to be as brave as this. You don’t know if an idea like that will work, and we did everything we could.
‘Ideally we’d like people to say, “Why haven’t we done things like this Australian show before?”’ he added.
O’Toole added another great thing to the series: there’s a mix of local Australian actors and Hollywood superstars.

“It’s got two-time Oscar-winning actor Sean Penn in it and we’re doing scenes with him! And it’s a show that my best friend created, so it’s a surreal experience.
“And you’ve got Lost star Matthew Fox in it, he’s so funny. He consistently plays very serious characters, but he’s very funny in this, it’s great,” he said.
The Cairns-born star said he thought the series’ hilarious content would give it broad appeal and was optimistic about its appeal to American audiences.

‘We would like to bring it to the United States. I think it’s something that American audiences will really respond to and it has an angle to get them into it.
‘It has American production values, it looks like a slick American show, but it’s ours. I hope they love it as much as we love making it,” he added.
Directed by actor and filmmaker Kick Gurry, the show also features a galaxy of Australian stars joining the cast, including Lincoln Younes (Last King of the Cross), Alexander England (upcoming Stan Original Series Black Snow), Mel Jarnson (Mortal Kombat ), Fayssal Bazzi (Stateless Persons) and Dorian Nkono (The Twelve).
O’Toole said viewers will get the chance to see the funny side of several Hollywood superstars known for their serious roles, including Lost’s Matthew Fox (pictured)
The plot centers on four Australian soldiers who are captured by freedom fighters after being mistaken for Americans and forced to make a hostage video that goes viral.
When the soldiers reach celebrity status, they realize that getting caught might be the best thing that could have happened to them.
