Dani Laidley has revealed how her family discovered her true gender identity after she accidentally sent them never-before-seen photos on Snapchat.

Daily Mail Australia can reveal it in the Stan Original documentary Revealed – Danielle Laidley: Two Tribesthe former AFL star admits her daughters found out after she sent the photos to them in 2019.

“I started living my life more or less as I do, with a small group of friends, but not in the presence of my children,” she says.

“I would do my very best to keep the two very separate.”

Dani talks about the moment her daughters received the images that she lived alone and often used the app to keep in touch with them.

‘I learned to use Snapchat. Because that’s mainly how I communicated with the girls every day,” she reveals.

“And one Sunday morning I learned how to do it. I didn’t have my glasses on…

“Instead of hitting save, I hit send. They have pictures of me.’

Dani admits she takes “full responsibility” for sending the images, adding that it happened during her battle with drug addiction.

The former West Coast Eagles star also confirmed that her daughters have stopped all contact with her following the incident.

However, Dani and her son Kane continue to maintain a close relationship.

“The girls had no idea… There were reasons why it happened: mental health, the drug use…” says Dani.

‘From that moment on I had no contact with the girls anymore.’

The following year, Dani fell into depression.

“I was in a very toxic situation with everything that was going on. I wasn’t in a good head space,” she says.

“I started thinking about how people would be better off without my presence.”

Dani later reveals that she attempted suicide.

The AFL great said she is ready to tell her story with her partner Donna by her side.

Donna was a lifelong friend of Danielle’s, and when she was at her lowest, the two reconnected and began a romantic relationship.

The Stan documentary, premiering September 19, navigates their path forward during a critical twelve months under public scrutiny.
