EXC: Olivia Colman reveals she gets ‘terribly homesick’ when away from husband Ed Sinclair

Olivia Colman has revealed that she gets “terribly homesick” when work commitments force her to spend time away from her husband Ed Sinclair.

The couple are parents to 14-year-old son Finn, 12-year-old son Hall and a four-year-old daughter whose name has never been released.

Olivia said on the Ruthie’s Table podcast: ‘Ed and I have been together for 30 years and until covid the longest I’ve been gone was 2 weeks because I just don’t take jobs from home.

‘I get terribly homesick. I used to never get a good night’s sleep without Ed.

‘I’m at an age where sleeping is harder anyway, so a night away might mean a good night’s sleep, but I miss the kids. I wanted to be there.’

The couple first met while students at Cambridge University and she fell head over heels in love.

Speaking to The Telegraph, she previously said: “When he came into the room I just said, ‘That’s him!’ Mind you, I suppose if he hadn’t wanted me I might have said, “That’s him!” a week later with someone else.’

She added, “We were 20 and he was an actor too. If you meet at that age, you’ll be fine. For me it was immediately like lightning bolts.’

Elsewhere on the podcast, Olivia revealed that she needed to put on a lot of weight to play Queen Anne in The Favourite, a role that earned her an Oscar.

But the star admits she wouldn’t do that again for a role because she found it so hard to lose weight.

Olivia said, “I had to gain weight, about two bricks, that was easy!” I can do that in my sleep.

“It started to get a little gloomy. I had the thought “how nice, to hear that I have to gain weight” and I can gain weight quite quickly.

But it started to feel like “I don’t really want another pizza,” then realized I’d have to take it all off at the end.

‘I used to eat much less and try to move more, but it was boring and hard.

Weight: Elsewhere on the podcast, Olivia revealed she had to put on a lot of weight to play Queen Anne in The Favourite, a role that earned her an Oscar

Olivia played the gluttonous Queen Anne during her reign from 1665–1714 alongside female love rivals Abigail Masham (Emma Stone) and Sarah Churchill, Duchess of Marlborough (Rachel Weisz).

Olivia added that she had to lose “a lot of weight” to play Queen Elizabeth II for The Crown’s third season.

The Oscar-winning actress said, “She was petite, she had a tiny waist, and I don’t have a tiny waist.

‘They were very sweet, they arranged a trainer for me. With my second series she was a bit older and didn’t have a small waist so I could let go again

“She was very healthy and outdoorsy and she maintained a trim figure that does not come from a large amount of food.”

Olivia is currently starring in BBC’s adaptation of Great Expectations, leaving viewers furious at the ending that was changed from the original.

Steven Knight’s adaptation, starring Olivia as Miss Havisham and Fionn Whitehead as Pip, has been embroiled in controversy over changes to the story, including its depiction of opium addiction and sadomasochism.

In the Dickens classic, Miss Havisham’s wedding dress is burned in a tragic accident that leads to her death – but in the BBC reimagining, Miss Havisham sets fire to the dress on purpose as part of a revenge twist and emerges unscathed.

The series also made a major change to the conclusion of Pip’s story, with his character reuniting in the novel with Estella, who reveals that she has finally opened her heart to him.

But in the final episode of the BBC show, Pip rejects Estella’s proposal and chooses to marry his childhood friend and Chartist Biddy.

Furthermore, as Miss Havisham sets fire to her dress, when Compeyson approaches her, she attempts to shoot him before setting fire to Satis House.

Compeyson and Magwitch fight in the burning building and die in the inferno, while Miss Havisham watches Satis House burn and survives her ordeal.
