EXCLUSIVE: Israeli Consulate Worker, 24, Is Charged With Attempted Murder ‘After Hitting Man With Giant Glass MUG’ In Unprovoked Topless Attack Outside New York Nightclub

  • Jonathan Maimon reportedly rocked SoHo on February 26
  • He is accused of hitting a 42-year-old man seven times with a 1.75-liter glass jug
  • The attack only ended when the jug was broken. Maimón faces five to 25 years behind bars

A New York Israeli consulate worker has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly beating a man with a giant glass jug outside a Manhattan nightclub.

Jonathan Maimon, 24, is said to have swept away the 1.75-litre glass bottle after a trip to the Gospel nightclub in SoHo on February 26, hitting a 42-year-old man over the head.

The victim, who has not been named, was approached by an unidentified man police say is Maimon while standing at a traffic light, waiting for it to change.

Maimon, whose role at the consulate was not disclosed, is accused of striking his victim hard once in the head, causing the man to fall to the ground in an attack described as unprovoked.

That didn’t stop the attack, with the man police say is Maimon seen beating his victim another six times.

The attacker said it was Maimon only stopped when the glass bottle shattered after landing the seventh blow.

NYPD investigators say this is Israeli consulate worker Jounatham Maimon during a topless riot in SoHo in which he punched a man seven times with the glass jug seen here in his hand right.

Jonathan Maimon is pictured, left, outside Manhattan criminal court Friday after being released on $25,000 bail on one count of attempted murder.

Paramedics took the victim to Bellevue Hospital, where he was treated for a brain hemorrhage and multiple cuts, according to the NYPD.

Maimón is also accused of using the same jug to break the window of an Uber that was passing moments before the orgy of violence began.

An NYPD spokesman said they have a “strong case” against the consulate worker, who was caught on CCTV at the Gospel nightclub shortly before the attack.

Prosecutors say they have Gospel credit card receipts that prove Maimon was there.

It is not clear if Maimon met his alleged victim inside the club before the beating and if he is still employed by the Israeli consulate.

DailyMail.com has contacted the consulate for further comment.

The attack happened outside the Gospel nightclub, pictured, in SoHo on February 26.

Maimon looked down as an elegantly dressed man escorted him out of the court. His behavior was markedly different from the video that is said to show him rampaging through SoHo with a giant glass pitcher last month.

No further details about Maimon’s role at the consulate have been released, and it is unclear if he was suspended from his duties in the wake of the attack.

Footage taken from a taxi and released by the NYPD shows a man who closely resembles Maimon strutting down the street while carrying the empty glass container.

A white limousine was filmed idling behind the attacker, who had thrown his white T-shirt over his shoulders to expose his tattooed torso.

It is unclear, if anything, what prompted Maimon’s alleged violent anger.

He appeared meek and embarrassed in front of Manhattan Criminal Court on Friday when he was released on $25,000 bail.

Maimon dressed in a white shirt and gray pea coat to ward off the winter chill, keeping his eyes on the pavement as a DailyMail.com photographer snapped at him.

He was flanked by a well-dressed man in a crisp white shirt, tie, and pea coat similar to the one Maimon was wearing.

Maimón faces between five and 25 years behind bars if convicted on the attempted murder charge.

He was charged with felony assaults in the Big Apple.

A total of 3,293 such attacks so far in 2023, a considerable jump from the 3,780 recorded in the same period last year.
