Ex-wife of Olivia Nuzzi fiance Ryan Lizza breaks silence after RFK Jr ‘affair’ humiliation ends his wedding plans

She was there before the #MeToo allegations against her ex, and before his failed romance with decades-younger Olivia Nuzzi.

Politico reporter Ryan Lizza’s former doctor has summed up her feelings about the RFK Jr. love triangle that the father of her children is now embroiled in in five words.

Dr. Christina Irene Gillespie, 50, a prominent family medicine physician in Washington, D.C., was reluctant to comment on the media frenzy that has erupted after her ex-husband’s 31-year-old fiancée was exposed as having had a “digital” affair with Kennedy, the former 2024 presidential candidate who now supports Trump.

“That’s none of my business,” she said this week when The Mail spoke to her by phone at her doctor’s surgery.

Although she answered a question and didn’t hang up, she seemed eager to end the conversation about her ex’s public shaming.

“I’m busy with patients right now. Please don’t call back,” she said before hanging up.

Gillespie and Lizza, Politico’s chief Washington correspondent and co-author of the Playbook newsletter, were married for 11 years and have two children. They separated in 2015.

Lizza worked as a Washington correspondent for The New Yorker, a position he held since the late 2000s until allegations of “inappropriate sexual misconduct” surfaced that led to his firing in 2017, according to The New York Times.

He denied the allegations, claiming the relationship was consensual and respectful. He also alleged that The New Yorker rushed to its decision without a full investigation.

The magazine at the time cited privacy concerns and declined to provide further details about the case. His accuser remains anonymous.

His potential fall from grace also came during the height of #MeToo, a movement focused on sexual harassment and abuse of women in the workplace following the Harvey Weinstein scandal.

It was a time when many power figures were being held accountable for inappropriate and criminal behavior. Hollywood mogul and sex offender Weinstein, 72, was eventually convicted in a New York trial and has been in prison for two sex offenses since his conviction in 2020.

In 2022, he was sentenced to 16 years in prison after a jury found him guilty of rape and sexual assault.

Before Lizza was ousted, he had just achieved a career highlight: He secured an interview with White House Communications Director Anthony Scaramucci, which reportedly led to Scaramucci’s resignation.

The saga between Nuzzi, a star political reporter for New York magazine, and the former presidential candidate began when Nuzzi went to interview RFK Jr. at his $7 million home in Brentwood, California, for a story she was writing.

However, Nuzzi became part of the story – a scandal that included alleged sexting, provocative photos and even a bear carcass – when she began an alleged affair with the thrice-married politician and father of six.

JFK Jr. has been married to actress Cheryl Hines since 2014.

The 59-year-old actress, She is best known for her role as Larry David’s kind, yet loyal and forgiving wife on the sitcom Curb Your Enthusiam. She was a huge supporter of her husband when he ran for the White House.

Hines, who is away from home behind the gates of her mansion, has still been out and about, despite being photographed last week at Milan Fashion Week in Italy and at the Gucci afterparty without her wedding ring.

After the news broke, Nuzzi was suspended.

She admitted in a statement to the Daily Mail when the story first broke that “the nature of a particular communication between me and a former reporter became personal.”

She also claimed that the relationship was never physical.

Nuzzi is said to have met RFK last year on a hiking trip as part of a profile she wrote for New York magazine.

A source close to Nuzzi told Status that the relationship only began in the new year, after the profile was published in November 2023.

According to people familiar with the matter, she did not proactively disclose the affair and New York Magazine only recently learned about it.

Her editors confirmed that the other party was a “former issue relevant to the 2024 campaign.” Status reports said the affair was with the former presidential candidate, who is married to actress Cheryl Hines.

RFK Jr. has maintained that he met the political journalist only once, when she profiled him last year.

“Mr. Kennedy met Olivia Nuzzi only once in his life for an interview she requested, which resulted in a hit story,” his spokesperson told CNN. A source added that the nature of the relationship was “emotional and digital in nature, not physical.”

Insiders told the New York Post that the couple engaged in “sexting,” despite the fact that RFK Jr. was married and Nuzzi was engaged at the time.

“Earlier this year, communications between me and a former reporter became personal,” Nuzzi said.

“I did not report directly on the subject at the time, nor did I use the sources as sources,” she said.

“The relationship was never physical, but should have been made public to avoid the appearance of conflict. I regret not doing so immediately and apologize to those I may have disappointed, especially my colleagues in New York.”

New York magazine acknowledged in a statement about Nuzzi’s breakup that there was an inappropriate relationship, calling it “a violation of the magazine’s standards regarding conflicts of interest and disclosure.”

“Had the magazine been aware of this relationship, she would not have continued to cover the presidential campaign,” the statement said. “An internal review of her published work found no inaccuracies or evidence of bias.

“She is currently on leave from the magazine and the magazine is conducting a more thorough third-party investigation. We regret this breach of our readers’ trust.”

Gillespie and Lizza met while they were both students at the University of California at Berkeley.

Their June 20, 2004 wedding was held at the posh St. Regis Hotel in Washington DC and their wedding announcement appeared in The New York Times page about weddings and parties.

Lizza, 29 at the time, was an editor at The New Republic and a White House correspondent. His bride, Gillispie, 30, worked at Unity Healthcare, a local clinic in Washington.

She is also an assistant clinical professor of medicine at both Georgetown University and George Washington University.

Gillespie, who has been a physician for nearly 25 years, also holds a master’s degree in public health from Tufts University in Boston. In 2016 and 2018, she was named a Top Doctor in Washingtonian Magazine.
