Ex-USA gymnastics team doctor Larry Nassar ‘stabbed multiple times’ in Florida prison
Former U.S. gymnastics team physician Larry Nassar has been stabbed multiple times during a federal prison assault, according to AP.
Nassar, 59, was attacked Sunday night at Coleman Prison in Florida by another inmate.
The extent of his injuries is currently unknown, with sources confirming he was stabbed in the back and chest, but is in a stable condition.
He was convicted in 2018 of sexually assaulting members of the US team, including Olympic gold medalists Simone Biles, Aly Raisman and McKayla Maroney.
Nassar spent decades in prison after abusing members of the squad under the guise of medical treatment.

Nassar admitted to sexually assaulting the athletes while working at Michigan State University and USA Gymnastics, which trains Olympians.
He also admitted to possessing child pornography, and more than 100 women demanded more than $1 billion from the federal government because the FBI failed to stop the doctor.
The agency was aware of allegations against him in 2015, and he was arrested by Michigan State University police in 2016, more than a year later.
Michigan State, accused of missing opportunities over many years to stop Nassar, agreed to pay $500 million to more than 300 women and girls who had been assaulted by him.
USA Gymnastics and the US Olympic and Paralympic Committee reached a $380 million settlement with the women.
During victim testimony in 2018, several athletes testified that during Nassar’s decades of sexual abuse, they had told adults what happened, including coaches and athletic trainers, but no mention was made.
In June 2022, Nassar’s final appeal was dismissed by the Michigan Supreme Court, filed on the grounds that he was “treated unfairly.”

The application was based on a judge telling him, “I just signed your death warrant” when he sentenced him.
Judge Rosemarie Aquilina called him a “monster” who would “wither” in prison, much like the Wicked Witch in “The Wizard of Oz.”

The state Supreme Court said Nassar’s appeal was a “precise question” and raised “concerns” about the judge’s conduct.
But the court also noted that despite her provocative remarks, Aquilina stuck to the sentencing agreement worked out by lawyers in the case.
In a two-page order, the court said, “We refuse to expend additional judicial resources and further subject the victims in this case to additional trauma where the questions at hand are nothing more than an academic exercise.”
More than 150 victims spoke or made statements at an extraordinary seven-day hearing in Aquilina court more than four years ago.

Rachael Denhollander, the first woman to publicly accuse Nassar, said, “It’s over. … Almost six years after I filed a report, the time has finally come.’
Nassar, who had been the chief physician for Olympic gymnasts, was sentenced to 60 years in federal court in 2017 on charges of possession of child sexual abuse material.
The following year, he was also sentenced to 175 years and 125 years respectively in two separate Michigan courts for molesting female gymnasts under his care.
USA Gymnastics filed for bankruptcy in 2018 after Olympic bronze medalist Jamie Dantzscher filed a lawsuit and additional claims were filed on behalf of a growing number of victims of Nassar.
