Former MLB minor league pitcher Matt Pobereyko has died at the age of 31 after suffering a heart attack at his home in Chicago.

The former pitcher for the New York Mets, Arizona Diamondbacks and Miami Marlins played this month in Mexico, described by his family as “perfectly healthy” after his death.

Pobereyko was found by his girlfriend in his apartment in Wheaton, near Chicago, according to nbc news.

In an interview with the same outlet, Pobereyko’s brother Daniel said: “He just fell off and that’s all we know.” we do not know

‘From what we know now, there really are no clues. He was seen earlier in the week and he seemed perfectly fine.

Pobereyko’s death was first revealed by his team in Mexico, Saraperos de Saltillo, who tweeted on Saturday: “We report the unfortunate news of the death of Matt Pobereyko, due to a heart attack that ended his life.”

The pitcher had last played earlier this month in the Caribbean World Series in Venezuela, and his family revealed he still harbored ambitions to play at a higher level after impressing in his most recent stint.

Later, his brother Daniel confirmed that Matt was found by his girlfriend at his home.

Pobereynko played on February 9 for Mexico against the Dominican Republic.

He played for the Mets, Arizona Diamondbacks, and Miami Marlins minor league teams.

‘I had my eyes on the Asian markets because I had pitched very well in Mexico, so I was expecting that at least. He still had some really good stuff, and he was going to pitch as long as he did.’

The Hammond, Indiana native first played in college for Kentucky Wesleyan before his minor league journey, reaching as high as the Mets’ triple-A team in Las Vegas in 2018.

Over the winter, Pobereyko had also played for the Algodoneros de Guasave, leading the league with 73 strikeouts in just 70 1/3 innings.
