A former McDonald’s chef has revealed a secret hack to upgrade a burger for free.

Illinois-based chef Mike Haracz recommended that McDonald’s customers make a special request for the restaurant chain’s burger bun.

Haracz stated in a recent TikTok video that fans should order a Double Cheeseburger or McDouble and request a steamed bun.

“I know you’ll love it, and you’ll say to yourself, ‘Why have I never tried this steamed bun hack before?'” Haracz said.

“In the past, I would have said something like that was impossible because you don’t mess with perfection,” food critic Moriah House wrote for The takeaway.

“But after you look past a TikTok @chefmikeharaczmy worldview has changed.’

As of now, the only favorite McDonald’s sandwich that comes with a steamed bun is the Filet-O-Fish.

The process of steaming a McDonald’s sandwich is simpler than customers might have imagined.

Another former McDonald’s employee said on TikTok that the Filet-O-Fish sandwich will be steamered for 11 seconds in 2022 video.

House confirmed that it only takes “a few seconds” for employees to steam the bun.

“When making a Filet-O-Fish, McDonald’s puts the sandwich in a steamer drawer for a few seconds,” House wrote.

‘This simple process turns the bun into a warm cloud of deliciousness, perfectly ready for a burger patty, fish fillet or whatever your heart desires.’

She added that steaming the bun would ensure customers don’t have to worry about “dry, stale bread” getting stuck in their palates.

Despite the hack’s simplicity, TikTok users who watched Haracz’s 2023 video admitted they were nervous about requesting a steamed bun.

“I’m too scared to ask this at my McDonald’s,” one TikToker admitted after watching the former chef’s video.

“Another commenter wrote: ‘I have a feeling I’m going to get a loogie on my burger for a request like that.’

The Filet-O-Fish sandwich is currently the only McDonald’s sandwich in the US that comes with a steamed bun

A few TikTokers claimed they had asked for a steamed bun before and were happy with the results.

“We always order it so delicious, and ask for no salt on the fries to keep them fresh,” wrote a McDonald’s customer.

Others insisted that their local McDonald’s restaurants would never accept the request for a steamed bun and that they were happy if they got the right order.

Several viewers claiming to be McDonald’s employees insisted they never received the request or had any interest in trying the hack.

Some of them also claimed that employees at their local McDonald’s restaurants never steamed buns because the machine would “always break down.”

The customer suggested Double Cheeseburger Haracz is part of the new Buy One, Add One for $1 deal on McDonald’s new McValue platform.

McDonald’s launched the McValue Platform on January 7, which can be used at all its locations nationwide.
