Ex-Man City boss Stuart Pearce names a VERY surprising team to beat his old club to the Premier League title, with the bookies only making them sixth-favourites to win it!

Stuart Peace has made a surprising prediction about which team can stop Manchester City’s dominance of the Premier League this season.

Despite spending much of the campaign chasing a resurgent Arsenal, Pep Guardiola’s side embarked on an unstoppable run towards the end of the campaign.

With only two league defeats from February to the end of the season, City comfortably reclaimed their place at the top of the league table while also clinching the Champions League for the first time in their history.

Despite previously being both a player and a manager at the club, Pearce revealed he does not believe City will make English football history by winning their fourth successive top flight title this year.

Speaking talkSPORTPearce defied the bookmakers by naming an unlikely contender for the Citizens’ crown.

“To be honest, I think (Newcastle) is going to win the league this year.” Pearce said.

“I’m going to stick my neck out I think Newcastle with the recruitment they’ve done and how things stand.

‘I’ve been there a few times in the last year and the place is absolutely amazing.

Eddie Howe’s side got off to a dream start to their campaign with a 5-1 win over Aston Villa last week and Pearce added that the Magpies’ visit to the Etihad on Saturday could be an early test of their title fight.

“I think if they keep everyone fit and have a good run, and I think this Saturday night game could be a good indicator of whether they have qualifications.”

A third-place finish last season marked a return to European football for the Magpies for the first time in over a decade, and Pearce added that the atmosphere will make a visit to St James’ Park a huge challenge for clubs in the Champions League.

“When I went to play there many years ago, I couldn’t believe the atmosphere when I walked in there. It was just incredible. Arguably one of the best I’ve ever played in for its excitement and intensity.

“Then all that fell away in the following years, but I never knew excitement and euphoria up there at the football club and in the city as it is now great.”

Pearce also stated that City’s loss of De Bruyne for up to four months could have a significant impact on the team, particularly the efficiency of last season’s Premier League Golden Boot winner Erling Haaland.

“With Manchester City losing De Bruyne for a long time I think it will have a direct impact on Haaland too, so I think that will hurt them a lot and that’s probably why I’m looking at Newcastle.”
