Sky Sports sign former Liverpool star as their new pundit for the Premier League season – and he kicks off with a clash between two of his former clubs

A former England international joins the star-studded list of Sky Sports pundits for the upcoming season and will make his first appearance on Sunday.

The 33-year-old former top striker played for five English clubs in his career, two of them in London in one of the first games he will play with Sky on Sunday afternoon.

Gary Neville, Jamie Carragher, Jamie Redknapp, Izzy Christiansen, Karen Carney, Micah Richards and Roy Keane will continue their roles – and they will be joined by a new face as Manchester City aim to retain their Premier League trophy.

Former England international Daniel Sturridge enjoyed a successful playing career, winning Champions League trophies with both Chelsea and Liverpool, as well as a Premier League title and two FA Cups with the Blues.

Birmingham-born Sturridge said: ‘The Premier League season starts tonight (Friday) and I’m delighted to be part of it with Sky Sports.

Sky Sports Director of Football Gary Hughes added: “Daniel has been an outstanding striker for three of the Premier League’s biggest clubs and will bring all of his fantastic playing experience and incredible knowledge of the game to our coverage this season.

“We welcome him to the team and we at Sky Sports are all looking forward to what will be a season of drama and entertainment.”

Sturridge’s former clubs Chelsea and Liverpool take on each other on Sunday afternoon

Sturridge progressed through the youth system at Manchester City before becoming a senior star in the Premier League.

He was on the books at Chelsea between 2009 and 2013, before moving to Liverpool, where he spent six years at Anfield. He also spent time on loan at Bolton Wanderers in 2011 and West Bromwich Albion in 2018.

The Blues host Jürgen Klopp’s side in Sunday’s kick-off at 4.30pm, Sky’s second game on Sunday after Brentford against Tottenham Hotspur.

Sturridge also made 26 appearances for the England national team between 2011 and 2017, scoring eight goals and representing Great Britain at the 2012 Olympics.
