On set: Ewan McGregor, 51, sported a thick mustache as he continued filming for the television adaptation of A Gentleman in Moscow on Tuesday.
Wintery: The actor was seen getting into character at the snowy crescent of Le Mans in Bolton, which had been transformed into Soviet Russia.
The series is adapted from Amor Towles’ 2016 best-selling novel, which follows Count Alexander Rostov after the Russian Revolution.
He discovers that his golden past puts him on the wrong side of history, and though he was spared immediate execution, a Soviet court banished him to a strange fate.
He is sent to a room in the attic of the opulent Hotel Metropol, threatened with death if he ever sets foot outside again.
During the time of his exile, Russia goes through a period of great transition and tumult as he builds a new life for himself inside the hotel, finding the true value of friendship, family and love.
Ewan’s wife, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, will play Anna Urbanova, described as “a self-made, independent, glamorous film actress at the height of her fame.”
The series will mark the third on-screen collaboration between Winstead, who married McGregor in April 2022, and her husband, following 2017’s Fargo (where they first met) and 2020’s Birds of Prey.
The character is said to use her ‘wit and beauty to dazzle’ the disgraced earl, though she is ‘reluctant to reveal her true self’.
While The Count and Anna have “sizzling chemistry” from the moment they meet at the hotel, it may be love for Anna… or just another role as well.
