Ewan McGregor looks dapper at the Star Wars Celebration 2023

Ewan McGregor showed his smart yet casual sense of style when he attended the Obo-Wan Kenobi panel at the Star Wars Celebration in London on Sunday.

The actor, 52, who appeared in the Star Wars prequels wore a white top with black stripes under a black jacket as he posed at the event.

He wore black trousers and opted for a pair of edgy brown boots for his outing.

The star sported a neatly trimmed mustache and casually stood with his hand in his pocket.

Scottish star Ewan appeared in good spirits as he took the stage and addressed the audience at the panel discussion at the ExCeL London event center in the British capital.

Ewan played Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Star Wars prequel trilogy and then reprized his role for the Disney+ series named after the character.

The artist previously defended the trilogy films, saying he thought it was “ballsy” for George Lucas to deviate from the beloved originals in the films.

He starred in The Phantom Menace (1999), Attack Of The Clones (2002) and Revenge Of The Sith (2005) – alongside Liam Neeson, Hayden Christensen and Natalie Portman.

While seemingly destined for success just like the original trilogy, they are the most critically acclaimed film in the franchise and have been the butt of jokes in the Star Wars fan base for years.

But Ewan, who starred as Obi Wan Kenobi and returned to the franchise this year for a Disney+ series, has defended the controversial prequels, saying he’s grown to love them over the years.

Speak at the GK Heroes annual summit in collaboration with BMW at Soho Farmhouse on Thursday, Ewan said he thought it was “ballsy” that director George, who helmed the original trilogy, was doing something “different” with the prequels.

He also admitted that his own relationship with the films has changed over the years and said he grew to love them after hearing positive reviews from fans.

Speaking to Adam Baidawi, Head of Editorial Content for UK-based GQ and Deputy Global Editorial Director for GQ, Ewan explained, “I think [my relationship to the prequels] has changed for me because I met more people in that generation.

‘I admire George [Lucas] because he tried to do something different with it, not only did he plan to do three more Star Wars movies that felt like the original, I respected him for that, I think that’s bold and interesting.”

In response to the films’ poor critical reception at the time, Ewan said that with the prequels, critics wanted to go back to their childhood.

He added, “I think the critics just wanted to feel like they were seven or eight again, and they didn’t get that, so I stuck with that.” [reaction] for years and years.’

Ewan isn’t the first actor to defend the divisive prequels, as franchise veteran Mark Hamill, who played the original Luke Skywalker, spoke out in support of the films last year.

“I was impressed that the prequels had their own identities,” said 70-year-old Mark in an interview for film historian JW Rinzler’s posthumously published book, Howard Kazanjian: A Producer’s Life.

He claimed that the three prequel movies have been criticized over the years, not because they aren’t any good, but because they weren’t as easy to digest as the others.

“They were criticized for being exposure-heavy and more cerebral and probably, as he said in 1976, not as commercial,” he said, as reported by IndieWire.

The actor continued, “It’s a darker story. But in the age of social media, people’s voices are amplified and I’m shocked at how cruel they can be, not just in the case of Star Wars movies, but across the board.”

George Lucas’ ex-wife, Marcia Lucas, is one of those who hasn’t been shy about sharing their displeasure with the prequels that began with Liam Neeson as Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn, and Hayden Christianson starred in the last two episodes as Anakin Skywalker.

“I cried,” said Marcia Lucas, who was married to George Lucas from 1969 to 1983, after seeing a screening of Phantom Menace for the first time.

“I cried because I didn’t like it very much.”

Defense: Ewan recently defended the prequels, saying he’s grown to love them over the years after hearing from fans of the movies (seen in 1999’s Star Wars Episode I – The Phantom Menace)
