I thought this common act was ‘normal’ in Australia – but the reaction I got from an American has me questioning everything
A mother has sparked a heated debate after asking whether it is publicly acceptable to leave the house with wet hair.
Evie Farrellwho runs the company ‘Mumpack travel’ which organizes holidays for women, was in Malaysia when an American noticed her hair was dripping wet.
Evie told FEMAIL the traveler was “surprised” – especially when other Australians on the trip did the same.
She shared one get it of her with wet hair on Facebook alongside the caption: ‘Apparently it’s a very Aussie thing?’
“In my opinion, as long as my hair is dry by the time I get to the place I’m going (restaurant, dinner, work, etc.), I’m fine leaving the room with wet hair,” Evie continued.

‘Why waste time blow-drying, especially when it takes time and I get hot, and there’s no guarantee it will look better than drip drying anyway.’
A debate ensued in the comments, with many saying they never dry their hair after washing it.
“As a curly girl, I’m anti-heat damage so I’ve been leaving my house with wet hair every day since I was probably 12 years old,” one person wrote.
‘I’ve never had a hairdryer in my life. Wet hair, it doesn’t matter!’ said another.
“As an Australian, I’ve never thought it was weird that I just let my wet hair dry whenever I felt like it,” wrote a third.

However, others disagreed and always dried their hair after showering.
‘I can’t stand the smell of wet hair; it’s actually my favorite hate. Especially if you can smell it on the bus or public transport. I always dry my hair before leaving the house,” one person said.
‘I blow-dry every day. Looks awful without it,” another added.
Another woman said: ‘I’m Aussie and would never leave with wet hair, at least if the front needs to be dried and styled.’
A woman from Scotland said: ‘I would get pneumonia if I went outside with wet hair in general!’
“The only time I bothered to dry my hair before leaving home was when I lived in London in the winter,” one person added.
According to Mayo Clinic, wet hair in a cold environment will not make you sick.
