Eve’s smart weather station is now easier to use thanks to Matter

Smart home brand Eve is relaunching its smart weather station with new support for the Matter standard. The device, known as Eve Weather, has a large display that tells you the outside temperature, local humidity and the day’s 12-hour forecast. You’ll also know whether it’s going to be a sunny or cloudy day.

The addition of Matter makes for better integration into a smart home environment. Eve says that “other platforms (like Google Home) can connect” to the device thanks to the kickstand, and that your entire family can access the sensors to learn more about the weather, whether they’re using an iPhone, Android, or via voice assistants like Alexa and Siri. That’s pretty handy.

Additionally, the company says that “Eve Weather enables smarter automations” when connected to other devices on the Matter network. For example, you can connect a smart light bulb and have it turn on when certain conditions are met, like when the temperature outside drops. It can even turn on humidifiers and other devices “as needed.”

Also, don’t worry if you have the older Apple HomeKit version of the Eve Weather. A company representative tells us that the previous generation of Matter will receive support via an OTA (over-the-air) firmware update through the official app, but there’s a catch.

The device must have been purchased after 2021, as during that period Eve switched to the Thread smart home protocol for their weather stations and Bluetooth Low Energy was discontinued.

Recurring Features

Aside from the Matter support, the revamped Eve Weather appears to be exactly the same as before. It’s a compact piece of tech, measuring 2.1 x 2.1 x 0.6 inches (54 x 54 x 16 mm). It also has a certified water resistance rating of IPX4, making it resistant to splashes of water, but not to strong wind gusts or submersion.

This version of the Eve Weather, like its counterpart, costs $79.95. To get the most out of the gadget, you’ll need to own a Matter controller, such as the fifth-generation Echo Dot. If you don’t have one and have an iPhone, the HomeKit version of the Eve Weather is still available for purchase for the same price. You can also buy two as part of a bundle for $149.90.

We reached out to Eve to ask if they have any plans to sell a bundle package for the Matter model. The same rep from before told us that there were “no bundle plans at this time,” while also adding that they “can’t imagine many scenarios where a single household would need multiple Eve Weathers.” But if things change, they’ll let us know.
