Independent video game store itch.io recently announced the next Creator’s Day is on November 29 Engadget Reports. As such, any money you spend there this Friday will go straight to the developers, as itch.io is waiving the normal 10% discount.
This latest Creator Day also falls in the middle of itch.io’s annual Fall Sale, which runs from November 27 to December 5. The website’s huge developer community contributed more than 7,400 projects to the event, which apparently included both digital and physical games and resources to create your own games.
Creator Day was founded by itch.io in 2021 as a way to support developers struggling to make ends meet at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We are supported every day by our amazing community and we wanted to identify a day where we could give back,” Spencer Hayes, director of business and content at itch.io, told Polygon at the time. “It’s been hard for a lot of people and we thought we would help however we can.”
Itch.io is already known for its generous distribution of income – with only 10% of sales going to the store as standard, the ratio is better for developers than on other platforms such as Steam, the PlayStation Store, the Microsoft Store and Apple’s App Store – but events such as Creator Day and the various charity drives organized on the site certainly go out of their way to differentiate it from its more prolific competitors.
