Everything we know about Infinity Nikki, the upcoming fashion RPG produced by a BOTW alum

Thursday’s PlayStation State of Play kicked off the series of direct-to-player showcases taking place in June with several highly anticipated trailers and updates, including a first look at gameplay for Infinity Nikki — a fashion-themed open-world RPG that builds on the characters from the popular mobile games including Love Nikki And Radiant Nikki.

The game does not yet have a release date, but developer Papergames announced during State of Play that testing will begin in the third quarter of 2024. The trailer has plenty of elements to get excited about: incredibly sharp AAA-level graphics, whimsical settings and costumes. and pastel puzzles and challenges. Furthermore, the game will be available on PS5 as soon as it is released.

But people might be even more excited about it Infinity Nikki after watching clips from IGN reporter Daniel Robson’s three-hour demo of the game. Robson’s taste features tons of exciting artwork and cutscenes from the game, but the rave review of the gameplay is what will likely please both Legend of Zelda players and Love Nikki fans are excited to get their hands on this for themselves.

Robson says players will be able to customize the main character’s outfits to an extent that rivals Animal Crossing: New Horizonsand then use a powerful in-game camera to take cute pictures of them. You’ll have plenty of opportunities to enjoy the sun-drenched landscape from your perch on a magical glider (as Robson calls it “Hyrule as interpreted by Studio Ghibli”), cycle through the landscape, and use your tools to capture materials for crafting of new clothing and items.

However, the overwhelming cuteness of the game does not detract from its weight as a challenging and engaging game (in my opinion, other cozy open worlds often suffer from this). Robson reports that the Zelda-style puzzles and “shrines” are challenging without being frustrating, and are well worth the reward at the end: stunning animations that show which level you’ve just beaten.

There are also battles, including battles with monsters and other creatures that drop materials that you can use to sketch and create new outfits. The game will eventually include online features, but IGN reported that these won’t be available at launch.

As mentioned earlier, Infinity Nikki developers say it will be ready for testing around July 2024, and will debut on PS5 at launch. IGN previously reported that the game will also be available on PC, Xbox Series
