A woman’s ‘innocent’ tennis outfit has been deemed ‘inappropriate’ and ‘borderline offensive’ for a match and lunch at a posh country club – but not everyone understands why.
Tina* was invited to play tennis with a friend but couldn’t decide if her Lululemon top and skirt were perfect for the occasion.
Even though it was an all-white workout outfit — which guests were asked to wear — the top showed off a bit of her midriff and cleavage.
“I was invited to a bougie club to play tennis, is this appropriate?” » she asked with a photo of the outfit.
“It’s casual tennis, then lunch. I’ve looked all over the club website for information on dress, but it only says to wear mostly white and have non-marking shoes.

Tina also shared that she looked through the club’s tagged photos on Instagram to see what its members typically wore.
“There were a lot of ‘model’ posts, so I didn’t know if people were actually wearing that or not,” she said.
Many slammed Tina for her “ridiculous” question.
“Just the suggestion is embarrassing. This isn’t a country club themed Instagram shoot. There will be real tennis and a nice sit-down lunch with older, more conservative people,” one woman said.
Another added: “Don’t wear this. This is a violation of most dress codes and is just plain embarrassing. My cousin once brought a girl to meet our grandmother and the club made her wear chef pants because she showed up in denim.
“I have belonged to or performed at dozens of fancy clubs. None of them would have allowed the belly to be so visible. In my experience, places that list all or most white in their dress code tend to be more conservative,” one man wrote.
“Definitely too revealing!” I worked at a private country club and this outfit would not be appropriate,” a former employee revealed. “You need to dress more conservatively.”

A few warned Tina that the country club might embarrass her by making her change.
“If you show up with this, your host or the club will give you a tennis jersey with their logo on it,” one man said.
“You might get a shirt with a logo, but you might also get the best lost and found shirt – which can be gross,” said another.
Some offered advice based on Tina’s current outfit, but ultimately decided it was inappropriate.
“You might want to try running and jumping with this top in private before doing it in public,” one advised. “These tops are cute but don’t really support you if you’re actually playing a sport. They are designed primarily for yoga.
“The Lululemon skirt will probably work, and it has built-in shorts and a tennis ball pocket. I would recommend a top that doesn’t show the stomach. You could play like this but bring a sweater for afterwards,” wrote another.
“You need a dry-fit white polo shirt or a looser-fitting sports top without cleavage or midriff. The skirt could be a bit longer, but it’s probably not a bad choice,” one said.
