Everyone is excited about Hephaestus from Hades 2
With the Hades 2 technical test going on, we ask this question: how are the Greek gods of the game even hotter than in the original, Hades? Regardless of the answer, many new characters are added to the franchise’s lore, such as Hephaestus, the god of the forge. Hephaestus is special because he plays a role in most films other stories of gods – he is the one who created their powerful weapons, such as the spear of Athena or the thunderbolt of Zeus. He is also one of the few Greek gods who is not ‘perfect’; It is said that he was thrown from Mount Olympus because of his appearance, and that he was injured in the fall. He is often depicted with a disability that affects his legs.
His design Hades 2 takes this backstory into account: In Hades 2Hephaestus is hot, fat and disabled – something the community celebrates. HadesWhile he was praised for his character design, he was not particularly known for his body diversity. Most, if not all, of the characters are depicted with thin bodies. The only fat bodies inside Hades were of enemies, like the wretched outlaws, described in the Hades Codex as entities ‘reduced to only their most basic negative impulses’.
Hephaestus made a brief appearance in the Hades 2 technical test livestream on Wednesday, where he offers his favors. He is depicted with lush, long hair, tied in a half bun, while holding a hammer or an axe. Hephaestus has a prosthetic leg decorated with similar iconography to his arm tattoos, and he uses a wheelchair. Although he looks tough and sounds a bit grumpy, his eyes show a different side: the expression on his face is sweet, gentle – as if he cares. Simply put: he’s hot.
Supergiant Games creative director Greg Kasavin told Polygon that the portrayal of Hephaestus and other characters is intended to “stay true to the spirit” of Greek mythology. “With each of our character designs, we always want to stay true to the spirit of the classic mythology that inspired this game, and think about each character’s specific role in the story,” Kasavin told Polygon via email. “We’re excited that everyone will be able to meet all the new and returning characters soon enough!”
It will be interesting to see how his Greek backstory plays into how he interacts with other gods; because of his disability, he was often abused by the other gods. The Hades 2 The tech test is limited to a small portion of the game, but players will likely see more of Hephaestus and the others Hades 2 story when the game becomes available for early access soon.
