Dwight McNeil's partner Megan Sharpley has opened up about her health problems in an emotional New Year's post on Instagram.
Posting a photo of herself in hospital, Sharpley revealed that she had “undergone emergency open surgery and lost an organ or two.”
She also praised the Everton star, 24, as a 'wonderful person' for looking after her.
“Dwight, you held my hand every time the bad news came, reminding me how strong I was and that everything would be okay,” Sharpley wrote.
“You dressed me, you washed me, you carried me, you fed me, you injected me, you fulfilled all your obligations while supporting me and never complained.

Sharpley posted a photo of her in a hospital bed and said she had undergone “urgent surgery.”
In another Instagram post, Sharpley thanked “amazing human” McNeil for his care

“You slept next to my hospital bed and made me giggle even when the world felt like it was ending. You are the most wonderful human being.
“Now let's put the super tough times behind us in 2023 and carry on forever. Another year completely in love – I am blessed.”
McNeil shared the post on his Instagram account and wrote: 'we are a team, I love you little one.'
In an earlier post on New Year's Eve, Sharply wrote, “As a new year approaches, I pray for the two things I have come to love most: health and happiness.
“This year has been mentally and physically exhausting from start to finish. Ending the year last week, undergoing urgent open surgery and losing an organ or two seems only fitting.
'I know people have questions, which I will share in due course, most of which I haven't answered yet, just that I am not yet on the road to recovery (take 2) and am hoping for an outcome of full health.
“But know this, I have faith that whatever 2024 has in store for me, I know I will be strong enough to own it, conquer it and hopefully… enjoy it.”
McNeil commented on the post: “Proud of you mooster.”
McNeil has been a mainstay for Everton this season, playing in all three Christmas games

Midfielder McNeil featured in all three of Everton's matches over the festive period as they suffered defeats to Tottenham, Manchester City and Wolves, leaving them just one point above the relegation zone.
Toffees fans rushed to wish the couple all the best for 2024.
One wrote: 'To be able to match the level of performance he has delivered, playing with a smile on his face and at the same time striving not to let his partner, his supporters and his club down is simply astonishing .
