Everton give update on Dele Alli’s future with injury-plagued star’s deal up next month as they announce release of two players and fate of captain Seamus Coleman

Everton have provided an update on injured midfielder Dele Alli as the Toffees announce they have offered their captain Seamus Coleman a deal to extend his contract by a year.

The club have also confirmed that Ashley Young has been offered a one-year contract extension following the conclusion of his current contract this summer.

Meanwhile, the Toffess have also opted to activate an extension clause in Idrissa Gana Gueye’s contract, which will keep the former Paris Saint-Germain star at Goodison Park until June 2025.

The Senegalese midfielder is currently in his second spell at Goodison Park and has played a crucial role in helping Sean Dyche’s side avoid another relegation battle this season, most notably scoring the first goal in their 2-0 victory against Nottingham Forest.

Alli’s contract expired this summer but Everton’s director of football, Kevin Thelwell, and manager, Sean Dyche, agreed not to release the midfielder while he recovers from a long-term groin injury.

Thelwell said in a statement to the club: ‘Dele’s contract is due to expire, but our medical team will continue to support him as he completes the intensive rehabilitation program he is currently undergoing following the surgery he underwent earlier this year.

‘Both Sean and I agree that it is important that we ensure that Dele’s rehabilitation is not affected by his contract situation at such a critical point in his recovery.’

Sean Dyche’s side have also announced that Andre Gomes and Andy Lonergan will leave the club when their contracts expire at the end of this month.

The Toffees signed Gomes for £22million from Barcelona in 2019, after initially going on loan and impressing for the Merseyside club under manager Marco Silva.

Meanwhile, loan players Jack Harrison and Arnaut Danjuma are both returning to their parent clubs.

The Toffees confirmed they will ‘continue dialogue with Leeds regarding Harrison’s future’ following the conclusion of the club’s play-off campaign.
