Everton dealt a blow as Sean Dyche confirms that Seamus Coleman will be out for rest of the season

Everton are dealt a major blow as Sean Dyche confirms Seamus Coleman is OUT for the rest of the season with a ‘ligament injury’… 24 hours after the defender assured fans he would be ‘back soon’

  • The 34-year-old defender sustained a nasty injury against Leicester on Monday
  • Coleman had hoped to be back soon to join Everton’s relegation scrap
  • But Sean Dyche was quick to temper expectations after further evaluations

Sean Dyche has confirmed Seamus Coleman is unlikely to play for Everton for the rest of the season, just one day after the Toffees captain told fans he would be ‘back soon’.

Ahead of the Premier League weekend, which sees his side play Brighton on Monday, Sean Dyche said that while there was some ‘good news’ in his forecast, Coleman would need a sideline spell.

‘[The injury] will still keep him out,” the manager said.

“It’s still a ligament injury that needs to be fixed, but it’s not [what] everyone feared: ACL [anterior cruciate ligament].

So that’s good news and good news for him.

When asked if Coleman was likely to return before May 28, Dyche confirmed: ‘Doubt it. I don’t think so, no.’

Coleman has been a solid presence in Everton’s rear throughout his time at Goodison Park and the timing of his injury could be critical.

Everton are currently 19th in the Premier League and have not recorded a win since their 1-0 win over Brentford in early March.

Next Monday’s meeting against Roberto De Zerbi’s side is just one of the tests the Toffees will have to pass before the last day of the season.

They also have yet to face Manchester City and Bournemouth, who have responded to the threat of relegation with a spirited performance that has seen them win four of their last five games.
