Everton captain Seamus Coleman sent a heartwarming message to a young Australian fan who missed the Merseyside derby as it was canceled due to severe weather warnings.
Mackenzie Kinsella, 15, from Sydney, spent £1,500 to attend the match which was due to take place on Saturday afternoon before it was postponed.
The teenager, who has been a die-hard Everton fan since birth thanks to his Liverpool-born mother Rita, saved his money so he could travel for two weeks to watch Sean Dyche’s side in matches against Wolves and Liverpool.
Coleman, who has made 365 appearances for Everton since joining in 2009, addressed Mackenzie personally in a video and invited him to meet the squad at their upcoming training session on Monday.
“Hello Mackenzie, this is Seamus Coleman. “I just wanted to send you a video message to say I know you’re going to be so disappointed today,” the 36-year-old said.
“I know how much you saved to travel from Australia to the Merseyside derby.

“I know you were looking forward to the experience [of] attend the latest Merseyside derby at Goodison [Park]so I’m sure you will be so disappointed today.
“We all are, all of us Evertonians. We were all looking forward to the match.
‘But we’d like to see you here at the training ground on Monday, if that’s okay with you.
“Hopefully you can see a few guys and hopefully it makes up for some of the disappointment and we can have a chat.
“All the best, Mackenzie, and take care.”
The match is expected to be postponed until sometime in 2025, depending on the progress of both Liverpool and Everton in other cup competitions.
If Liverpool finish in the top eight of the Champions League, they could avoid two matches in the knockout stages of the play-offs on February 11-12 and February 18-19, 2025.
Everton do not have a match on any of these dates, meaning this would likely be the earliest date the match could be moved to.
The Premier League has also set two midweek schedules for postponed matches: April 22-23 and May 13-15, 2025.
Unless both teams are eliminated from the FA Cup before then, it is possible that the match will be replayed on one of these dates.
