Everton are close to signing Udinese striker Beto, as the Portuguese star has reportedly completed his medical at Goodison Park.

Sean Dyche’s side are at the foot of the Premier League ahead of Friday’s transfer deadline and are the only team in the division to have scored a goal so far.

The Toffees, who have already suffered three defeats against Fulham, Aston Villa and Wolves, are now on the verge of signing Beto for around £25 million.

Mail Sport understands Everton will pay £21.4 million plus £4.2 million in potential extras for the Portuguese striker, with no payment due until next financial year.

The 25-year-old striker scored 10 times in 33 Serie A appearances for Udinese last season, helping the Italian team to twelfth place.

Beto will soon be revealed as an Everton player, having now undergone medical tests at Merseyside, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Everton are battling the continued absence of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who missed major stretches last year due to knee and hamstring problems.

Despite starting the new season, the Toffees striker suffered a fractured cheekbone against Aston Villa and is once again sidelined.

Chance conversion has been the main problem for Dyche’s side this season, with Everton failing to score despite taking 15 shots and seven attempts on goal in last weekend’s 1-0 defeat to Wolves.
