Everton are interested in signing Aston Villa youngster Tim Iroegbunam as the club looks increasingly keen to cash in on fellow midfielder Amadou Onana for big money, with several clubs in circulation.
The Toffees are in talks with Aston Villa over a potential £10million deal for defensive midfielder Iroegbunam, who has been capped by England at Under-20 level.
Iroegbunam, 20, played 15 games for Unai Emery’s side last season and is now keen on more regular first-team football, with Everton seen as a perfect destination to do so. Everton are keen and have entered into talks to strike a deal that would be relatively cheap.
Sources close to the Goodison Park club expect Belgian midfielder Onana to move – and Mail Sport understands Arsenal made contact last week about a deal. Nothing is at an advanced stage, but the Gunners and another Champions League team have shown interest.
Arsenal saw midfielder Mohamed Elneny leave the club, while the future of Thomas Partey is also uncertain.

Onana has been a key member of Sean Dyche’s team since arriving from French side Lille – who have a significant sell-on clause and are in line for a windfall – in 2022. Everton want at least £50 million for the 22-year-old. especially considering the sky-high fees paid for midfielders last summer.
Mail Sport denied reports last month that Everton had to approve a ‘fire sale’ to comply with financial rules by June 30 (the accounting deadline), but it noted that at least one asset, likely Onana, would be cashed in.

But regardless of the spending, Iroegbunam appears to be someone to keep an eye on to strengthen the midfield. Andre Gomes also left the club after the expiry of his contract and Iroegbunam, who came through West Brom’s youth academy, is said to be an asset to the first team.
