Eva Mendes is seen for the first time since defending Ryan Gosling over his Oscar nomination for Barbie as she steps out in Santa Barbara

Eva Mendes showed off her unique fashion sense as she was pictured for the first time since defending partner Ryan Gosling in his Oscar nomination for Barbie.

The actress, 49, stepped out to run errands in Santa Barbara on Thursday, wearing a stylish gray Gucci coat and a leopard print fedora.

Underneath her coat, the Place Beyond the Pines star wore a floral button-down dress, which she paired with knee-high brown boots.

The mother-of-two completed her look with sunglasses and was pictured having a conversation on her mobile phone.

It follows news that Gosling, 43, will not bow to pressure and forfeit his Best Supporting Actor nomination at this year’s Oscars despite calls from fans around the world, an insider claims.

Eva and Ryan met on the set of The Place Beyond the Pines in 2011 and share two daughters, Esmeralda Amada, nine, and Amada Lee, eight.

On Wednesday, Eva defended Ryan after he received an Academy Award nomination for his role as Ken in Barbie.

Mendes posted a gushing message to her Instagram, describing her pride and the “Not My Ken” taunts he endured in the lead-up to Barbie’s release.

“So proud of my husband,” Eva posted on Instagram.

“So much hate when he took on this role. So many people are trying to shame him for doing this. Despite all the #Notmyken mockery and articles written about him, he created this completely original, hilarious, heartbreaking, now iconic character and took it all the way to the Oscars. I’m so proud to be Ken’s Barbie.’

Gosling was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his role, but controversially, lead actor Margot Robbie and director Greta Gerwig did not receive individual nods.

On Tuesday, Ryan expressed anger in a statement that the Academy had overlooked his female colleagues, but stopped short of giving up his nomination in protest.

And according to a source close to the Hollywood A-lister, he has no plans to do so.

America Ferrera, Gosling’s Barbie co-star who was also nominated for an Oscar, called the actor a “class act” when she responded to Eva’s post

“He understands that people are angry, because he is angry too, but he doesn’t let what anyone says online affect him.”

They continued, “Ryan is honored that he was nominated and that the film was nominated.

“If he wins or if he performs I’m Just Ken, he will honor Margot and Greta in some way.”

According to the source, Ryan is doing what’s right for his heart and has the support of his cast and director.

‘He doesn’t want to make more of it than it has become. He talked about it and people should take what he said seriously because he meant every word,” the insider said.

Ryan issued a statement addressing Greta and Margot’s criticism shortly after the Oscar nominations were announced on Tuesday.

He began his statement by expressing gratitude for his nomination, saying, “I am deeply honored to have been nominated by my peers alongside such remarkable artists in a year with so many great films.”

“And I never thought I’d say this, but I’m also incredibly honored and proud that it is for portraying a plastic doll named Ken.”

Controversially, Margot, who played the title character Barbie, and director Greta Gerwig did not receive individual nods

The actor then expressed his disappointment that Margot and Greta were not nominated, before praising them for their work on the film.

“Against all odds, with nothing but a few soulless, scantily clad and thankfully crotchless dolls, they made us laugh, broke our hearts, pushed the culture and made history,” he added.

Finally, he congratulated co-star America Ferrera, who received the Best Supporting Actress award.

“That said, I’m so happy for America Ferrera and the other incredible artists who contributed their talents to make this such a groundbreaking film,” Ryan said.

Barbie was released in July and grossed a record $1.45 billion at the global box office, and $636 million domestically.

The blockbuster received a total of eight Oscar nominations, although Greta failed to land a Best Director nomination this year, and Margot, who played the title character, was also passed over for Best Lead Actress.
